I'm sure these people will more than likely not consider you to be a "friend".

Your hate for them surely shows.

The majority of Americans that are lucky enough to still have a job (other than you obviously) have been seeing their wages drop and cost of living increase.

Many or most living check to check barely making ends meet or actually running in a hole like the country.

So when they say they don't have the money to spend on a movie they are being fiscally responsible, truthful and should be respected and actually applauded for turning your condescending ass down to spend frivolously at the movies.

Yeah I been out of work for a while now. Thank god for the GI Bill. I try not to push myself into group things where I'd need to leech or borrow constantly.

poor friends aren't necessarily the problem, just like cost isn't always the reason why you might turn something down. I wouldn't want to see a terrible movie in a movie theater whether the ticket was $10 or $4; if I can't spare the time to see it or think I'll enjoy it, why bother?

I think the issue is value more than cost. Still, there's ways to discount the movie tickets (ie. Costco has discounted AMC and Regal ticket packs).

I don't know if anyone has said this yet. But just fyi: your "friends" have $15, but they don't want to go with you.

Ask about 5 good friends if they want to go see the Avengers movie this weekend. Out of those who have replied, they go "I don't have the money." It's freaking $15. You're 24+ and not in college with a job. How the F are you so bad with money you can't go, "ok yeah lets go!"

:colbert:

No wonder that an american says: I don't have money.

Average american is ~ $181,000 in debt. - loans, mortgages, cars, credit cards.
Total US is ~ $57 Trillion in debt.:

So, where someone would get $15 from?

WORK MAKES YOU FREE !!!

I think the OP missed the point, those 5 "buddies" just doesn't like the OP, and they're not really friends.

The OP may be "that guy", you know?

They probably turned you down because only a dumbass pays $15 to see a movie. 3D? Keep your glasses from the first 3D movie you ever see (avatar in my case, but any will do) then pay for the 2D version of the movie (avengers in this case) and walk into the 3D auditorium. Going to the Matinee time is also a no brainer. Avengers 3D for 8$? No problem!

The difference in price is not just about the glasses. This is exploiting the theatre 'honor system'.

Are you one of those that think paying for one movie entitles you to jump screen to screen all day?

Yeah I guess being a thief is preferable to begging.

What's even worse is if one out the group is poor. Anytime you do something, the one guy backs out because he can't afford it, then the others feel bad and don't go :(

I have $15 to spare, but I don't want to blow it on movie tickets. Talk about overpriced.

Going to the movies SUCKS, unless you are talking Weekday/$8 tickets and sneaking in food/drinks.

i have a group of friends that live paycheck to paycheck and a group of friends (mostly coworkers) where we fight over who gets the tab at the end of the night.

then there are the couples that come out like once every 6 months.
Yeah once you're in an LTR, the bar scene pretty much goes away. Of course, I never was into the bar scene even after 21. So whatever.

I haven't been to the theater since the first Sherlock, because movie theaters blow ass. If someone asked me if I wanted to go I'd either just say no or invite them over to watch something on my HT.

My wife and I are leaving to see a matinee showing of Ted in about 20 minutes and, with a large drink included, it will cost less than $15....

Maybe your friends think movies is where they should take their girlfriends, not you?

$15? That's ridiculous.

2 People $30 + concessions $15 (share a soda). $45 to sit in an uncomfortable seat, have your ass fall asleep, and not get the privilege to pause the movie when you have to piss. Not to mention the other hundred+ asshats that are sharing the experience with you.

My name is Dr150....and I approve this message.
