All I have to say is yeah the system sucks, but how do you think it got there? In recent years (from 80's to present) there has been a total demand for equal treatment across the board. Now look back on the educational system in the 40's-60's (I would say 70's but ehhh I don't really wanna go there

) you will notice our educational system at that time was much better.
And the reason was becuase it was not all equal, not everyone got to go to school. Hell not everyone had to go to school. Now I'm not saying it was a picturesque educational system in the past, but as society and its needs change more pressure is put on schools. The educational system fills up many voids in scoiety and trys to fullfill many expectations put on it today. Yet when budget cuts come around why is education usually one of the first to be cut?
Look at it, the school systems today are forced to teach in multiple languages, teach about multiple cultures, provide many programs (ie:headstart programs), it has to do more things but I just woke up so I can't really think right now, where in the past the system simply had to go in and teach.
