You found a wallet, now what?

Wallet delima?

  • Keep the cash, drop in mailbox

  • Meet face to face and return

  • Leave it where you found it with all contents

  • Take the cash, dump the wallet

You find a wallet with $37, a picture ID and a few other personal items. Would you keep the money and drop the wallet in a mailbox or hand deliver it? Or would you let sleeping dogs lie and just throw the wallet back where you found it, money and all?

You could consider the $37 a finders fee and having to hassle with taking it to a mailbox. If you deliver it personally with all its contents the owner might be grateful enough to reward you - or accuse you of taking the $100 bill that WASNT in there when you found it.

edit: According to the local parish priest, if the money isnt yours, return it.

i'd drop it off at the police station, or mail it with the full contents and eat the cost of mailing it...but that's just me

If it was very old(weathered, been outside awhile), I'd just keep it. If it was fresh I'd drop it in a mailbox with no return address. I've been in the same situation, and I could foresee very bad consequences hand delivering it, or having it tied to you in any way.

Edit:
I didn't vote due to the variable circumstances I posted.

I'd probably deliver it to the police station and try to give them as much detail as possible such as where it was, when I found it etc.

Reverse the situation. You lose your wallet with your LAST $37 in it, and now you have nothing to eat. You are living in your car and have 0 money for gas to keep you warm in it. What would you want anyone to do that found it?

Do the right thing.

Hopefully the guy returning it is not expecting a reward, because I would not be able to afford it under those conditions. Maybe seeing my plight would cheer his heart for being so generous in this holiday season. ()🙂

Most of the peeps on this forum have less then 37 dollars in savings, I doubt that would happen 😉
