From personal experience at least, everywhere I've worked I've noticed how a lot of times some women or some gay men tend to walk like they're in a hurry no matter what they're doing.

It could be walking to the bathroom or walking to the water cooler to refill their bottle. It's no matter what the situation is, they're in a hurry.

What gives?

😕

Anyone else notice this?

OK I can see this needs to be said. I am in no way implying that if you're a guy and you walk fast that you're gay. (not that there's anything wrong with that)

Just to get that out of the way.

This is just an observation of mine from my own personal experience in my own environment.

I don't think it's a female or gay men thing... I walk fast compared to other people. I am a man and I ain't gay.

The OP didn't specify, but I think he means the "stick up the ass" style of fast walking. You see it in some queers, and women. It's where their body stays close to itself, and everything is very tight, and almost jerky.

I tend to be a fast walker myself. It's very frustrating when a herd of fatties spreads out in a confined space, and blocks all passage.

What I'm curious about is why every car in the street seems to always be in a hurry.

Driving at or slightly less than the speed limit is good enough for me. Especially in a residential area.

So based on the OP's observation, can I just assume that these people are women or gay?

You sir, are the bane of my existence!

Obeying speed limit in residential streets is a good idea no?

I hate people that walk slow in the hallways. Especially when it is a group of people who take up the whole sidewalk or hallway.

Get your lazy fat-ass out of my way.

Well on the flip side of the topic, I work with one guy in particular that is sooooooo slow at walking and constantly walking right into the way of people that are "zooming" on by in the halls and pissing them off all the time.

He's not fat though, just walks slow as hell for some reason, that annoys me.

i'm like that. i walk really slow...and tend to veer a lot.

it's cause i'm never thinking about where i'm walking, always thinking about what i was doing.

except for stairs. i always run up stairs.

i dont know why.

no, no it isnt.

I tend to walk pretty quickly, but I'm usually so caught up in whatever I'm thinking about that I'm not really paying attention to how fast I'm walking or even where I'm actually going... I have to turn around a lot... I hate when I suddenly realize I've passed my actual destination and almost fall on my face I stop so fast. I'm rather tall though too (6'4", with long legs, I've met people 4" shorter than me who are as tall as I am when we're both sitting), in order to keep pace with a normal sized person I typically take 1-1.5 steps for their 2, and when their 2 are slow it actually gets difficult, I have to over exaggerate the mechanics of walking to waste time just so they can keep up, it bothers the fuck out of me.

I've noticed this for sure. Your post made me remember a friend from highschool. She 'powerwalks' almost all the time.

Ah, powerwalk is a good way to describe it.

You ever notice how some lesbians and some straight men tend to walk everywhere like they're in a hurry?

Where do you live, incidentally? I've noticed that in most larger cities people walk around like they're in a hurry; in more rural settings, they don't. I think it's a cultural thing more than anything else.

I've literally never seen any straight men do this in any places I've worked that I can recall unless there was something going on at that moment that was the cause for them walking fast.

I'm talking every single day these same people no matter what they're doing walk everywhere fast, at work, outside of work, doesn't matter.

goddamn slow moving southerner - GET OUT OF MY WAY

I am straight and move fast.

you answered you own question, duh. 😛

Kids are worth a lot of points. More so alive - that's why I have a reverse-shaped cow-catcher protruding from my grill.

haha

I tend to only move fast when I am running late - which consequently is quite often. 😀
Whenever I'm in a car, the speed limit tends to be the minimum unless weather is terrible or a cop is nearby (or my sixth sense gets all tingly and suspects cops are near).

I've also noticed that a lot of people talk on their mobile phone while walking around town and crossing streets. Weirdos.😛

Lots of people walk fast here in the city. We have places to be and you slow walkers are holding up the works. 😛

Try walking slow at rush our on the way to or from the train stations here and see how many bootprints you can accumulate on your ass after someone pushes you down.

Thread reminds me of Molly Shannon on SNL as Mary Catherine Gallagher or especially in her turn on Seinfeld.

Vid loads extremely slowly (it's the entire episode.) Go to about 1:45 in to see crazy Molly.

I'm fat. I walk slower than some people, but faster than most, it seems. It annoys the HELL out of me when I'm trying to walk some place (down the street, down a hallway, through the mall, just about ANYWHERE) and people are moving slow, and won't get the fuck out of the way. You -- the 15 emo punks that weigh no more than 50 lbs each - you don't need to walk arm in arm, preventing access to the entire 25 foot corridor. Move your asses to the side, other people need through; yes, even we fat people that can't stand to stroll around lazily.

It's the same as when you're driving. If you're not rushed and in a hurry to get somewhere, then STOP and wait until you're late, and then resume driving. Speed limits ought to be a minimum.

I might not have to be somewhere at any particular time, but I see no reason to spend extra seconds, while walking or driving, getting between point A and point B.

As for link to sexual orientation, perhaps your environment tends to bring more gay men that are *productive* around you rather than those that aren't. I haven't noticed any link between speed and sexual orientation. It's definitely cultural, though. In my area (south/central Ohio), nearly everyone walks slowly. I definitely prefer Chicago, where I can walk on the sidewalk and only have to walk around a handful of people that are walking slower than I am... rather than here, walking around *every single other person on the sidewalk* because they are moving slower.
