Sometimes you feel like a nut, and sometimes you don't.

Mounds/Almond Joy promotes deviant sexual lifestyles!

I like to buy Almond Joy, pull off the nuts and throw them away, and then eat the Joy.

Eventually we'll all be squeezed into a singularity.

Ewww....

But hey, maybe a lot of people will be squeezed with the ubiquitous "2 chicks at the same time".

Yes, and they will be sure to bring their cup.

Why does there have to be a pre-ordained purpose in life for you to enjoy it or think it is meaningful? I say the opposite. This is some sort of wild, unpredictable thing happening. Why not partake? Do you not value spontaneity and oddity? At the least, sit back and observe this strange occurrence that is life. Participate only as much as minimally necessary to achieve the goods and health necessary to observe it. If you are feeling ambitious, join in on the silliness. Not every action has to have an ultimate purpose of great import. Sometimes we do stuff to "see what will happen".

Are you the sort of person who, when playing video games, only does the absolute minimum work necessary to complete the game? Sounds like it.

Depends on the game. But usually I don't do the side objectives because I don't care to waste my time. (In my experience they suck!)

Shens means shenanigans.

Believe that life is worth living, and your belief will help create the fact. - William James

You are waiting for 'life' to show you a point to it all, so that you can avoid the terror of making the point yourself. The stubborn and fearful mindset which allows you to abstain from making your OWN point leads to Nihilism, the last crevice in which humanity hides itself from the awesome responsibility of free will. I alter Rousseau's famous phrase and say, "Every man is born free, and everywhere he looks desperately for chains to bind him."

Truth we seek, ever trustworthy, Truth.
will you wash corrosive nothings?
will you whisk covering cancerous doubt?
will you yield to our desperate plea?
held grasped in mighty maw,
all that is, bid silent by her Creator,
never to be sensed by man;
fate bid our race blind, deaf, numb;
the Truth whole,
ever flees.
infinite luck may it be, however,
not to stare into that burning bush,
not to gain such sought after piece,
not to know noumenal truth, it's harsh face;
could we stand if we looked?
none know God's grand sorcery,
we progeny of the first transgressors;
we are left lame,
insensible,
insane.

God, kill me now...

If you don't believe in God, then why do you ask for Him to kill you? :D

OP's post can be summed up as follows:

OMG I don't think there's a point to life! What do I do?

Answer:

I can become religious, and in effect pretend there's a point to life.
Or I can kill myself.

Here's a third option, OP:

Quit being so fucking emo and just live life.

To post honestly, I have those kind of thoughts too.

Some of us can agree there likely is no point to life, other than to find a mate, make babies, and do what else you can to ensure the survival of our species beyond our lifetime.
The last one is the big one, and is what I think every human needs to truly think about. For those like us, we REALLY need to look to that last point, because it might just be the one thing that keeps up sane. ;)

You just gotta find your calling in life. Do what makes you feel good, and follow that through no matter what. I think atheists are most susceptible to these problems because we just don't feel like there is necessarily a point. I sometimes imagine that there is a point of life... to reach a point where we become essentially Gods, to the point where we create our own little sandbox to play in.. but whatever.
Me? I find myself most comfortable with the idea that in the near future I'll be helping the fight to maintain our way of life in the US. As long as I have a decent amount of enjoyment I plan to make a career out of it.

I have a few ideas for fictional novels that incorporate a lot of themes I have given a lot of thought to throughout my life, and interesting enough war is a major part of the story. I've started and stopped the first novel numerous times. Not being able to work on it full time completely kills my ability to hold interest in constantly writing it, and having no source of income for it basically kills motivation. Maybe if I ever finish the first one and get money from it, it'll be easier.
I would, however, much rather enjoy writing a series of graphic novels with the right illustration, as writing the amount of detail needed in a novel bores the hell out of me. I enjoy writing, but I enjoy writing the actual story, everything else is very visual as I imagine it prior to writing it. Translating the movie playing it my head to detailed written word is excruciating. :laugh:

It must be that point in the semester when the kids are reading Camus and Beckett. Any empty, pointless thought you could possibly think has already been thought and shared so no point in thinking it and certainly no point in sharing it.

Yeah, I don't know... I figured we would all die because of entropy... Eventually all the stars will die and a super-super-massive singularity will just eat it all up. Is there something wrong with this logic? I figured eventually everything, including all the light that shot out into space at the beginning would come back after trillions/10^8738 years because of gravity, or am I wrong? Maybe a big-bang would happen again, I don't know... That's how I conceive it without any real scientific knowledge.
