Well said. A nutjob can turn almost any ordinary object into a weapon, regardless of its original design.

That's why jails take away shoelaces, belts, and other items. That's why the TSA prohibits certain items from air travel. You don't have to agree with those items, but it's not difficult to comprehend the rationale.
 
They should stop reporting on mass shootings. That would stop some copycat killers.

The media would rather more children be killed by copycat killers than not to have a story to sensationalize, and an excuse for gun control. It's their first amendment right, and the media don't care how many children they kill when exercising it.

Because these nutjobs who are determined to hurt people will just find some other way to maximize the damage. They'll carry more guns so they don't need to reload. They'll carry shotguns, for a wider spray, or build a bomb full of nails.

Bombs and kitchen knives. Blow torches too. There are special campfire style blowtorches that shoot out flames 2-3 feet long, and can be purchased readily at your local camping goods store.

No amount of control is going to stop this stuff. None. You can take every perceivable source of harm away, and they'll still find something to do damage.

Bombs to me are the most logical step if guns are removed. All it takes is the internet to figure out how to make a reasonably harmful bomb. Either that, or simply a gas station and a 5 gallon tank. Should we outlaw gas and portable fuel dispensers?

Where does it end?

IMO, I strongly doubt there is going to be anyway to fully stop any of this. Tighter security at schools will help. Perhaps taking a few instructors at each school, running them through some level of training, and providing them with a locked desk drawer for a defense weapon. But not matter what you do, you can only work to minimize the damage of a nut job.

Are we seriously going to ban motor vehicles when some one loses it and speeds through a crowded parade mauling innocent bystanders?

you'd be surprised how much it does. the faster you can reload and continue your rampage, the harder it is to be stopped and the more damage you can do.

also, it gives the gun owner less of a sense of power. you feel a lot more confident and powerful holding an ar-15 than a mauser.
 
So all I get from the anti-gunners is that people should let criminals do whatever they want. They don't care about people who are victims of rape, assault, murder, robbery, etc, they actually want more people to become victims.

yeah, you're right. nutjobs will still try and kill people. however, it will make it more difficult to do and the likelihood that they would do something would be less.

it isn't about stopping crazy people from doing crazy things. it's about decreasing the likelihood or desire for someone to do crazy things as well as decreasing the number of potential casualties.

i'd much rather see a crazy person try and take out an office building with two revolvers and a bag of bullets than seeing a crazy person take out an office building with two glocks with 20 magazines.

it's not very likely that people would resort to camping blowtorches to kill people or pipe bombs or whatever with the frequency that people go on shooting rampages. gun violence is A LOT higher than blowtorch violence or bomb violence.

you're totally missing the point.

humans are violent creatures. we can't stop people from killing or the methods they use to kill people. however, we can make it less desirable and we can make it more challanging to do on a larger scale. it isn't about banning guns. it's about making them less likely to be used for killing lots of people quickly and making them more likely for killing a fewer number of people in general. guns are here to stay... they're a part of our cultural dna. they're what gave us independence from the british, what protected us when we needed our homes, families, and property protected, and what expanded our country westward.

i'm not worried about knife violence increasing. the likelihood of there being one or two mass school knifings leaving a score of people dead is pretty damn low in the united states.

would you rather have the shootings that occur involve 6 casualties or 26 casualties? take your pick.

The only reason a mass murder occurs is because there is no one who can stop the shooter. They mostly occur in "gun free zones." It doesn't get much more obvious than that.

Reloading is no big deal especially if you have a second gun. I don't know what the "sense of power" is from having different magazine sizes. Since when did gun control ever work? Or prohibition? Or the war on drugs?

If you look somewhere like Aussie where guns are heavily restricted there is alot of rape crimes. You'd prefer people get raped instead? :hmm:

Guns are an equalizer for the good guys. How do the elderly and women protect themselves eh? The new trend with gun sales is largely driven by women as of late. Much more women gun owners than in the past.

You guys just don't get it and live in some type of fantasy world where crime never happens to you huh? I was mugged at gunpoint thats how I became a gun owner. It was part of a gang initiation. Where I live you can't carry concealed so mine never leaves the house. It didn't seem to stop the gang members though from walking around with a gun.

I also live near the shore. I've seen drug runners offloading drugs by boat. They could easily smuggle in guns with them. :hmm: What kind of perfect world utopia do you live in where criminals follow the laws?

Gun control literally only affects law abiding citizens like me.

EVERYONE right now can commit mass murder with ammonia and bleach. Thats super easy.
Why doesnt it happen 100 times a day?

Guns do not instill a desire to commit harm. The desire to commit harm to your fellow man existed before guns were even a thing. Before crossbows. Before bows.

Its the people that are the problem. Fix the problem. When your car wont start do you wash the windshield?

guns make people feel powerful. also, it creates a detachment from the person you're trying to kill, thus making it a lot easier.
