I stayed out of debt (minus school loans) all through college. since then (2 years now) I have accumulated about $3500 in CC debt, but a large part of that is the engagment ring I purchased this week. One loose diamond and a custom setting put me back about $2200, the rest is because I'm out of work but still have a mortgage, five pets, food, and utilities.

Congrats on getting your debt paid down - it will make a HUGE difference when it comes to purchasing a house. Some friends of ours were turned down for several loans because they had two new car loans on top of their student loans. They basically owned nothing and made nothing. We, on the other hand, had just our student loans since we drive shiat cars. Thus, we were able to buy a house while making jack, and it was the best decision we ever made.

huh? I wasn't even talking too or about you. I was talking about paying his sister back not about the value of paying off creditors.

The first line was for you....he was paying his sister back, and I had no doubts he was still going to be even though he said he could start saving.

Why do idiots here always assume the worse and go off flaming someone. Then I go and flame the flamers and then they cry Alkemyst is a big meanie.

Having a lot of debt doesn't make one financially irresponsible. Having a lot of debt one cannot afford to repay does. However, it really depends what that debt is for. Say you had to have a medical emergency paid then that's what you had to do, but if it's the latest 100 pack case of Pokemon Gold Edition cards then :disgust:
