It would help out most people. I was lucky enough to get given a good book before things got too far out of hand when I was younger, but so many adults just never learn any better :QOriginally posted by: pyonir

Now, except for @ $3k I owe my sister, everything else is paid off. I can actually start saving now
There may be mitigating circumstances that I know nothing about, but, unless your sister is independently wealthy, you might want to pay her off THEN start saving. Just a thought.
Congratulations on getting rid of the rest of your debt. I'm sure it feels good.

I don't see why we need a class to tell people to not spend money they don't have.Originally posted by: Skoorb

No offence taken here, mate, but the thing is that out of the original 20, 700 debt, I owed my sister @ 7 K, which is now down to 3 k. Have I been paying off her loan? You dont think so? I thought as much. Just because you were unfortunate enough to have a financially unresponsible brother doesnt mean every other sibling is like that. As far as the credit report part is concerned, I dont necessarily think it's crap: lets face it: based on the cr. report, I dont owe anybody a dime.
Yeah Rights notwithstanding, I KNOW I would be paying off the rest of the debt, so I am not perturbed by any sarcasm. And teh reason for 'insista that I pay her off over the next year' is so that I can start saving for buying a house.
p.s: Looks like you havent been in deep financial sh!t before...Else you are simply extrapolating things based on one bad data point.

I have knocked my $40k in CC type debt down to the last $6800 as of this month...I am paying about $1500 monthly so by the year's end that will be gone.
Then I will have about $7500 left on my car I just bought (only 7% interest), and will knock that out...I had paid cash for it, but got to thinking paying off college CC's at 20% versus a 7% loan is a lot better for my $9k.
My school loans are about $30k....something like 4% interest though, I will gear those up to triple payments of $750 once the rest is gone and bigger chunks here and there. Those are pretty reasonable and I don't feel so bad paying ($220/month).
My credit scores have been creeping up pretty regularly as well, which is an added plus as I will soon qualify for the best mortgage rates when I buy soon.
Once my bills are gone (not counting the extra I am paying and now used to paying) that will free up about $1000 per month...
Apparently we do, given how many grown adults can't manage their finances.I don't see why we need a class to tell people to not spend money they don't have.
