I'm just surprised that Jimmy Kimmel has been pretty much unaffected. I mean, you'd have thought "The Man Show" would have come back to haunt him.

Curious to see how much traction this gets:

What's more awkward is that bringing him back is now likely worse for Disney than in they just left him alone. Sure, some people likely heard about the hullabaloo, but how many more people do you think heard about him being fired and then saw why? It's even worse when you include the sort of obscene things some outlets were reporting. In other words, Disney's firing fanned the flames.

Disney puts themselves in quite the pickle with this one. Will take some serious PR miracles to skate past this disaster.

There can be a statute of limitation on many things, but not being politically incorrect or insensitive.

I heard that they had actually been in talks for a while.

I wouldn't doubt if this was just part of the plan all along: "Let this thing blow over, we're not in a rush to start filming yet with the current schedule, so we'll just sit on it until it seems like the right time to bring him back."

Yup this is just brilliant business. Go along with the mob mentality when it's at its peak and can hurt you. After it wanes, just do what you wanted all along.

Can you connect the dots on how the two things would be related for me?
It just seems that Disney said we need to protect our brand and defend our customers from the wretched things Gunn said so they fired him.

Then Smollett comes along and allegedly fabricated a story to make other people look bad. He’s not the only one that people initially defend and then have to retract.

So Disney says hey everyone is nuts, no group is worth defending and Gunn made us a lot of money, you’re rehired.
