Yet Another Origin Sucks Thread

Tried to buy FIFA 14 last week, but Origin couldn't validate any of my 4 payment methods, including Paypal. Tried it again today, still same problem. Completely removed and re-installed Origin, still nothing. After chatting with support, I was directed to an error code page which says it's either an account-related issue, and to try again later, or to just try again later.

Never had this problem with over 100 Steam games, yet Origin fails me on my 2nd purchase. :|

Update: Bought game code via Amazon and that worked. Still annoyed with Origin.

Be prepared for more stress. They have a online mode that extends the gameplay infinitely. I don't play because of time zone differences but my euro friends are raging about the connectivity issues. They copied the madden thing over, you lose if servers lose sync and just like in madden, when defeat is imminent, few know how to glitch and give you the loss.

Personally, I distrust origin to the point that I have 1 origin account per every origin game I own.

I pass on everything because it's Origin. I was going to get the big Command & Conquer pack on Amazon for $5 or something during the Steam Holiday Sale, but I passed because some of the DRM was on Origin.

I'm basically the same, there's literally no excuse for demanding gamers use multiple digital download services, when they ought to have all their games in one convenient place.

EAs continual attempt to force gamers into using origin by releasing origin only games is lame, every time that happens I simply skip the title.

I was one of the early people that managed to get Crysis and a bunch of other things on the steam store before EA pulled it all to promote Origin.

Luckily EA don't produce/publish anything actually very good these days, so it's not a huge loss.

Goddamn evil EA.

Making me play BF1942 and Dead Space for free on origin.

Also goddamn Origin for being so bandwidth efficient and well optimized, why can't they ruin my games like when Steam decides to do a client update in the middle of a Dota 2 match and give no option to turn it off?

Also how evil can you be to make your games Origin exclusive? (okay, Valve does the exact same thing with Steam, but they're Valve so they're cool).

Except you can disable steam updates for games.

Right click game > Click properties > Click updates tab > Set automatic updates > Do not automatically update this game.

And/Or set the background downloads to Never allow background downloads.

I actually think Origin is a better client than steam

Nothing wrong with it at all

Never had any real issues with either Steam or Origin except in the very early days of Steam many years ago, it was almost malware until they fixed all the issues, anybody that was around when Steam first started knows what I mean.

I'm talking about steam client updates, not game updates. There is no way to stop them.

Half life 2 was the first steam game I had (maybe the first ever steam game ? )

I remember being annoyed as to why I needed this software on my PC but soon got used to it

Yeah, I don't really get all the Origin hate. Sure, it's not as intuitive as Steam, and sure most EA games are trash...but there's nothing inherently wrong with the client itself. It does the same fucking thing as Steam.

I like Origin. I am first a Steam user and will remain one when I have a choice, but I've found Origin to actually work well. Origin has a simpler interface and feels less bloated. Also, with a simple check box and get virtually no ads. EA deserves a lot of hate for decisions they have made over the years, but Origin is one of the few things that they have done right.

That said, Origin is weak in some areas. First, Origin generally only supports EA games. In the long run though, it will guarantee Steam domination. Second, there is no obvious backup utility for game installs, and with recent games like Titanfall clocking in at 50GB this needs to be fixed. Steam simply owns here. Basically, Origin's weakness is that it is simply less feature rich than Steam, but that isn't necessarily bad. Steam has added a bunch of community features that doesn't really exist on Origin.

For the plus side, some EA games I purchased through Steam activated on Origin with the same key. I like redundancy. Also, Origin's "My Games" tab is well designed. It's like looking at game boxes on a shelf.

I have had zero problems purchasing games so I guess I'm lucky.

I've come to terms with Origin. I'm glad I held out, though. The only feature it's really missing for me is being able to install each game where I want, instead of choosing one librarly location.

But Steam doesn't even let you choose where pre-orders go, nullifying the point of the pre-load on Steam.

I agree with this. In addition, I like the fact that Origin lets you "hide" a game from your library very easily. I still can't believe this feature isn't available on Steam. It's highly useful.

I always enjoy yet another Origin bash thread full of noobs whining about their problems.

I actively avoid Origin only titles. Its installed on my PC, but randomly spikes CPU usage, drops my login credentials every reboot, and if your Internet hiccups during a game download, Origin won't continue the download when access is restored.

I'm fine with Origin, though I prefer not to use it (just hate having to use more than one login system for my games). I had issues when I first started using it, but that was more due to GFWL rather than Origin itself. It's been stable and problem-free since then in the few times I have used it.
