Over the years I have belonged to four "high IQ" societies: Mensa, Intertel, ISPE, and Four Sigma. The only one of these to which I still belong (and the only one which, in my view, is worth the membership fee) is Mensa, which offers several excellent publications and has given me access to some of the liveliest social events I have ever had the pleasure of attending.

There is quite a bit of useful information about such groups here, although I cannot vouch for the timeliness of all the links.

WW- Hey i scored a 156 here and in HS scored like 160 on some IQ test. But basically what the hell does it mean? I mean I can't spell real good and my grammer sucks got average grades in college and well never really excelled ever acidemically. IMO it's complete bull.... I mean so what you can put a cube together from the parts thereof and you can fiqure out some pattern from a group of numbers or words. BFD- hows this gonna help anyone in real life? Plus I've heard these tests are biased.....For example if they asked Yaht is to regata as Dog is to X...Most intercity kids have no idea what the hell a regata is so whould end up getting it wrong.. Oh well.. Guess some poeplefeel better about themselves if they have a quantifiable measure that they are smarter than others and mensa allows for that self adulation.

126 on verbal...but bleh, I'm not about to pay $50 to join their society just so I can access some chat rooms.

And btw: just read carbonyl's post. Preach on, bruthaman. It speaks volumes about IQ tests when you consider that they were first created to diagnose learning disabilities. Quantifiable intelligence is highly overrated.

I scored a 146 on the Ultimate Test. Sorry, no link. You'll just have to trust me.

Third question, with the balls, where patterns A and B represent numbers, find C:
These types of questions typically want you to find C given data in A and B. However, it is impossible to tell whether the small balls are touching the larger balls in A and B, while a small ball is clearly not touching the large ball in C. Hrm... maybe I'm just stupid, but should the test taker really need to guess the exam's intentions?

Question 7, this is getting pretty tough...

Once I finish I'll post my score.

Bleh: Screw this, this is taking way too much effort!

Those balls represent numbers. I won't tell you what numbers they represent (PM me if you can't figure it out), but don't worry about what's touching what.

While I tend to agree that IQ tests are largely BS, and haven't got much relationship to "real life," I strongly disagree with the notion that people who belong to Mensa for years and years are doing it for "self adulation." You can join once and show off your membership card for the rest of your life if all you are after is an ego trip. The people I know who are long time Mensa members are in it for the companionship and the social cameraderie with others who share their "affliction." I went to a Mensa regional gathering in Dallas once, and it was a blast. Not the elitist bunch of snobs that you might think, but a huge, hilarious hot-tub party with a never-ending supply of interesting conversation.

The 1st test is bull. I got a 98 and I only guessed wrong on a maximum of 6 questions. I definitely answered wrong on the other 29. Is this a feel good IQ test?

I always wonder why so many people take a IQ test when it's posted on AT and then say "I got X despite not caring and bs'ing my way through" in 10 minutes. Seems insulting to the rest of us (or me anyway). It's like if everyone were discussing how hard a class was, and then some guy interrupts with a "I got an A- and I showed up for class only 1/3 of the time. Later"

I scored 127 on the Ultimate IQ Test and I wasn't even trying. I was in the middle of making dinner so people kept bugging me. I kind of blew off some of the ones where you have to decide what patterns could not be made from the thingamagigs. At least 3 of those I just went, "eenie meenie miney mo..." I think if I had concentrated I would have scored higher, but my kids wanted to know when the chicken would be ready...

Anyway, I scored 151 on the Stanford Binet when I was 9. Not sure how I did it, I just remember guessing right over and over again and the administrator looking a bit shocked. Honestly, it almost seemed like the answers were coming from outside of me and jumping out of my mouth.

But am I a brain surgeon or an engineer?

Nope.

I am a housewife, haha!

edit: What I mean to say, rudeboie, is that a 'high IQ' does not make a person either way. Serial killers can have high IQs.... So lighten up, I think most people are just having fun here.

BTW...

While taking these kinds of tests, do you find yourself singing,

"One of these things is not like the other... one of these things does not belong..."

LOL!
that was the favorite songs of one of my drill instructors in boot camp!. you know how Marines should all look alike and perfect... well if we were all in formation and one guys unifrom was messed up he would come over and ask them "what's my favorite song?" then he'd usually make them sing it while doing push-ups or some thing fun;)

ahhh the memories.

just so you know, i answered about 5 questions, got bored, then answered randomly for everything else and leaving the fill-in boxes blank. i got a 117.

that shows you the validity of iq tests right there

well, if you saw that it shows the validity of multiple choice tests, you might have had a higher IQ when choosing at random.

156 on the ultimate, but I did it at work between doing other things. I think an IQ test with no time limit is bullshit. It's just a $cam to get you to join their club.

135 on ultimate.

Those jerks want 50$ to join, and there's no way I'm paying that just to inflate my ego.

P.S. I'm not afraid to admit I guessed on many of the questions.

Nobody has taken the test for exceptional people?

Carbonyl, if you really scored 159 on that and you've done merely average in life, that probably means you never
applied yourself. What I think is that when everybody knows the material well, only exceptional people can take it to the next step.
Example Edison, Einstein, or any other famous inventors that require some advance scientific theories , most happen to be exceptional people. Chances are, the next big scientific breakthrough(except for areas of biology) will not be made by people of average intelligence.

I believe most people are around the same average intelligence, but those who appear "smarter" usually put more time and effort into
their study. Their thought process are better trained and they're less willing to give up. People who appear "dumber" are those who never really try and give up whenever there is an obstacle. Seriously, 3/4 of the questions on the Ultimate IQ test are easy if you memorized your vocabulary, done your algebra, and your willing to think through a few. To me, anybody can be train to score very high on that test.

The only questions that can seperate the truely exceptional people are the more difficult pattern recognition and the 3D fold ups. If you can answer those, then you are a step above the rest. But damn if somebody can fold up that 3D image in their head and they're going through life on cruise control, they're wasting an aweful lot of brain cells.
