Yet another example of King Obama thumbing his nose at the Constitution Reply to Thread
"King Obama"?
Do you honestly think that Romney would NOT do the same exact thing if he felt it appropriate?

In fairness, Obama never asked Congress to declare war in Libya. Honestly, I'm not sure it would have been appropriate for him to do so. Basically we helped our NATO allies overthrow a dictator; I don't know you can really say we were at war with Libya or even just with the man of a thousand spellings. I do think he should have asked for Congressional approval and funding, as did Bush, but as it was (and is) a very limited operation in conjunction with and at the behest of our NATO allies, I can't get too torqued about it. If we wish to have allies in our adventures, we have to be allies in theirs. Not at all. I'm frankly disgusted by the whole imperial presidency thing. But, you have to blame congress for alot of the behavior by the executive.
They won't declare any wars, they've essentially, especially this congress, have done nothing, not even passed legislation they agree on.

On a side note, I really wish that when Congress is declaring war, they would just include the words "We declare war on " so that later there's not all this mealy mouthed weaseling of "Well I voted for the use of force with the understanding that force would not be used."
Yes i think he'll abuse his authority too but i fail to see why that applies to the current administrations bastardization of executive power. While you are worried about party lines we are all being fleeced.

If everything constitutional was left to Congress to decide there would be no purpose to the executive. Congress should have very strong ability to oversee a POTUS' activities, but they should not be able to determine or second-guess every executive decision. Hell, I'd argue they shouldn't be able to determine or second-guess most executive decisions. Congress bogs down everything, they're too slow.

If a President can wage war simply by his own will is this not king like powers? Once these wars are waged Congress can simply cut off funding and bring back the balance of power right? No King Obama just diverts funds to carry out war. Is this not a king like action?
The underlying question we must ask ourselves is who have we become? Have we become so comfortable in our lives we allow such atrocities to exist? Have we no respect for the Constitution from which the greatest nation on earth was established? We no longer hold our representative government accountable to their sworn oath to uphold the Constitution. We are and will pay the price for our apathy.

Take it up with the Supreme Court, that's what they are there for.
