I would think that chief of staff of the President of the United States would have to be one of the most demanding and stressful jobs a person could have. And since we've not in the history of these United States had a opposing party of the President be as obstructionist, destructive, worthless, and monsterous as the current Republican party is ... just about everything I've read seems to point to two causes for the resignation:

-Daley couldn't penetrate Obama's insular inner-circle (namely, he was getting cockblocked by Valerie Jarrett and Michelle) and felt ineffectual as a result

-he was selected to help Obama build bridges to the business community, but that's at odds with the new populist pivot Obama's decided to make for the election (and in the same vein, was hated by Congressional Democrats for trying to work with Republicans)

I consider myself a working person, (as I have a job, make money and pay taxes, the whole bit.) and I don't hate him.
Neither do my co-workers. None of them receive food stamps, in fact we are paid quite well for what we do.
