Stop derailing my self ownage thread with fairtax stuff. Obama's next goal is a VAT tax that will hit everybody.

And a mean is an average. They are exactly the same thing.

True

They are exactly the same thing.

Absolutely not true.. Understanding elementary statistics is a good step to understanding something about the economy. The word average is but a set of dozens of things, including mode, median, different kinds of mean and so forth.

All humans are animals. All dogs are animals. Therefor all humans are dogs. Just because an arithmetic mean is the most common average does not mean that mean means (I know, I couldn't resist)the same thing as average.

We should base our economic policies on geometric mean. :downs:

I'm not sure why people think the tax burden is mostly on poor people. This is the only reason they would ever want equal taxation. In reality it's the other way around. Something like the top 50% of earners pay 90% of the taxes. Poor people should probably never ask for equal taxation unless they're just trolling.

I don't know man...people make me  more than I'd like to admit.

I did, in direct response to you. And I'll take a politicians stance on being totally wrong, I simply "misspoke". 🙂

Then why haven't you edited the title of this thread, and changed "Obama" to "Bush," since Bush is the one who reduced the benefit?

Because "But Bush" is no longer appropriate. He's out of office. Any problems are the fault of Obama now. He didn't remove the cap with ARRA so it's still Obama screwing the middle class and he's only getting started. Hold on to your wallets, obama is coming for your money.

finally you are starting to make sense. Only one thing to do spidey (well 2 things)

1. shave your head

2. water the trees

And clearly you started a thread just like this one under Bush, so your impartiality is beyond question.

Yes, by all means...get your info from turbo tax, and not the national census backed by federal research.

Yeah, I can't believe Spidey honestly believed the average income was 120k.

Surprised more people don't have Lincolns and BMW's and 3000 sq. ft. homes with money like that!

I agree, everyone should be required to pay $30,000 in taxes per year, no deductions possible. If they cannot, they get immediatedly deported and all their assets frozen and put back to the federal pot.

IMHO this would be the solution to 90% of our tax wows. Welfare would be unneeded except for those that are temporarily unemployed and have paid in their fair shares. They are limited to collecting only as much in taxes as they contributed though.

And you foresee no issues attempting to deport 271,000,000 people? From the other nations they'd be suddenly pushed to, if not the 271,000,000 with guns themselves?

Turbotax's numbers are odd. If I recall correctly the program doesn't really make it clear what the source of the figures are. I'm guessing there averages for turbotax filers. Which is still high.

Your OP is a misleading troll since it implies that Obama added this deduction limit, instead of just leaving Bush's deduction limit in place.

Your ending rhyme claims that "taxes rise" which is clearly false in this case. Taxes are exactly the same (in this case) as under Bush.

Attack Obama for valid increases like the coming bite on capital gains and dividends, but you look bad blaming him for Bush's taxes.

I'm shocked 😱 Actually trying to correct an false title against Obama 😱😱

That's certainly true of income and capital gains taxes, but the poor pay a disproportionate share of payroll taxes because of the caps. The poor also pay a disproportionate share of "sin" taxes - but progressives don't care as long as they think they are punishing the rich.

I don't see how "sin taxes" were meant to "punish" the rich.

Spidey thinks 80,000 or 160,000 joint is just average middle class joe, eh?

You make that kind of money you can afford your education.

Oh come on. Get an education and a half-decent job and you might have a half-decent paycheck yourself. If you aren't making that kind of money get off the internet and go make some money.

80k-160k is NOTHING after all of the taxes you'll have to pay to Obama. Not to mention, you are going to have to pay for your college in full, 0 financial aid for you.

Um, they weren't, particularly. I was just pointing out that they fall particularly hard on the poor, who tend not only to be less bright (so as to avoid them) but also more likely to engage in the sort of behavior government deems "sin". The sin taxes are of course meant to punish the sinners - though with the tacit agreement that cigarette and cigar taxes don't bother the Limbaughs and Obamas of the world, whereas the poor man may well see his one pleasure be taxed beyond his means. Government knows best, after all.

Some of us have problems with government making that sort of judgment - that an act should be legal, but those doing it should be punished because the act is displeasing to government. Some don't, as long as their particular sin isn't included. I do.

That's because sin taxes are optional. Nobody forces you to drink alcohol and pay the 1000% tax on it. Nobody forces you to smoke and pay the $1000 tax on that either.

As a chemist at a billion dollar drug company, I was only making about 38k per year plus benefits. My best friend is also a chemist and he currently works for a paint company for something like 36k plus benefits.

Luckily I have quite a bit of money saved and I'm back in school for electrical engineering.
