Still my favorite scene in all of South Parkdom.

Ash cloud, the entire US mainland is fucked if this were to actually happen.
Well yeah. A dinosaur extinction level event is possible. At minimum a famine such as we've never seen would result with billions of deaths due to that and disease is a virtual certainly.
About this here map here, above. Those are mighty wide spread ash deposits it shows. Could you tell us how thick the ash beds are? Maybe provide an isopach map for each deposit? Thanks.
I thought the contingency plan was to build 8 big ships inside a Chinese mountain where the chosen few could survive the natural disaster so they could repopulate the earth....
Actually no, the prevaling winds will make sure most of the western US is perfectly fine.
70,000 and 20,000 years ago a larger eruption than ones typically seen at Yellowstone occurred in Indonesia and New Zealand. Humanity continued on, and will continue on even after Yellowstone erupts again.
1 TEU (twenty food equiv unit) has 160sqft. Assuming you can put 20 people to a container you could press every container ship, and container, into service, you get 18mm TEU, or 360mm people.
I guess that's theoretically feasible. But you'd never have enough time to put it together.
Nah, that plan was scrapped on 12/23/2012 when it was determined that the Mayans were full of shit.
Especially those of us that are trained and armed to the teeth. :whiste:.... In truth that enormous population is more frightening than any volcano.
Except lava flow eruptions aren't the kind of thing this volcano and others around the country are the most known for...they explode...like a messy, gassy case of diarrhea. Pyroclastic flows kill far more people world-wide than lava.
Next...there have been multiple warning signs that SOMETHING is going on in the caldera...some earth deformation, plenty of earthquakes...and clusters of quakes...not a sign that it's ready to go...but possibly a sign that something is going on...

Unfortunately, the science of vulcanology (volcanology) isn't good enough to predict whether it's ready to go...or just...clearing its throat.
The last eruption Yellowstone had was a lava flow eruption.
Here it is straight from the people monitoring it:

Although very unlikely to occur, a caldera forming eruption would produce massive pyroclastic flows. The Yellowstone region has produced three exceedingly large volcanic eruptions in the past 2.1 million years. The pyroclastic flows from these eruptions resulted in rock formations called "tuffs."
The Yellowstone Geo-Zit needs lancing. I propose eleventy billion geothermal wells to cool it down. Clean, abundant energy! The Koch Brothers* are probably preventing this from happening.
*I had to stick with the spirit of a conspiracy thread.
Yellowstone would make Toba look small, and that wreaked havoc on the entire planet. The human bottleneck theory and the DNA evidence that we all decend from only 1000-10000 humans that were alive about 50000 years ago are both linked to the Toba eruption.

I highly doubt any government would spend massive amounts of money on civilians for a super eruption, rather only plan on a continuity of government type plan.
The human animal will continue, but civilization collapses depending on the magnitude of the eruption. You need to eat. You aren't a hunter-gatherer with a large potential food supply. Instead you depend on agriculture and transportation and will soon have 8 billion competitors and are actually worse off, but if 95% of the population died then we still have more people than a thousand years ago. In truth that enormous population is more frightening than any volcano.
If there is a major Volcano eruption ANYWHERE in the world, I would like to be right on top of the volcano when it happens.
I would not want to live through it to see what happens after....screw all that.
