Aggressor, you should just end your aggrevation and return the card. Then get on the waiting list for a 512 GTX or see if Ronin or Rollo can get you one. Last I saw Ronin had 5 of the 20 boards ever made. :D

Your post screams fanboy. And so does your sig. Whatever credibility you had as being neutral is gone, at least for me. Telling another member to just give up on his hardware with the tone that he has no other alternative is quite immature and baby-like. Either help, or STFU please. :(

Oh yes Keys because you are the model of neutrality. Almost everyone has tried helping him in this thread but he insists nothing works for him. My suggestion to him is the next logical step: Get rid of the XT and get on the waiting list for the 512 GTX or ask Ronin or Rollo to see if they can get him one.

While I am not 100% neutral and have my preferences, I try my best to do so. You only see me flaring up when someone like morph comes into a thread and automatically states the OP has already made up his mind to not like the ATI card in his possesion. That kind of thing pisses me off and it WILL show in my follow up posts.

Everyone has tried to help, sure I guess. But what law of nature suggests that one or any of the suggestions provided would definately do the trick? So you blow off the OP because you THINK he is intentionally refuting the help he has been given. What kind of crap is that? Get on a waiting list for a GTX512? You know damn well they are damn near impossible to get at any reasonable price. If you HAVE to play your emotional damage card and tell the OP to give up, you should have at least told him to wait for the G71. THAT would be more logical than trying to get a GTX512. Get a clue man. And take off your Red tinted bi-focals.

If the OP has some patience, he can at least wait for the next CATS to be available which I heard was next week sometime. Maybe this will remedy his issues.

Don't even bother trying to be clever with a comeback here. There is nothing you can post to save face now. What is done is done. And you did it bud.

Oh noes, I've lost "face" with a professed nVidia fan, woes me! Get off your pedestal Keys, you berate Morph constantly while calling other peoples suggestions "crap" (see above). Talk about a hypocrite of the nth degree. G71 is unknown, I can't recommend he wait possibly months for vaporware. 512 GTX is available (somewhat) and obviously Rollo and Ronin have no problems getting one. Ronin has 5 or 6 of them, maybe he can help him out?

I'm laughing at all of the nvidia fanboy remarks. I would have hoped at least M0RPH would have seen this since it was a reply to his post, but I'll say it again just so everyone sees:

Before the 7800GTX, my last two cards were ATI (9800P and X800XL) and I quite enjoyed them. I still have zero preference, I'm just annoyed at how this card is acting up on me, along with the new CCC.

I am no fanboy; I buy whatever is the fastest in the price range I'm looking for, and have always done so. Brand loyalty is stupid, and I just think ATI could really improve their control panel and drivers. It's only so much of an issue to me now because there was a 2 year period where I only used ATI cards, and I guess buying an nVidia card was a breath of fresh air.

As for what I'm going to do next, I'm going to wait for the new Cat 6.2s before reformatting (though I think it's unnecessary). I'll try completely reinstalling Q4 to see if that helps, as well as test to see if any other games are having issues.

I don't think you'll find very many people that disagree with you about CCC. Even though I got it working fast after a format (make sure to skip .net 1.1) I still don't like it. I much prefer nVidia's simple yet elegant control panel and wish ATi would've stuck to improving their old CP rather than using this. As for your problems, I wouldn't even say they're driver related because the vast majority of XT/XTX owners I've been talking to haven't come across the same problems. There are always a few who run into snags and you seem to be one of them and until one of us is at your house to look at your configuration, the only thing we can offer are suggestions that may or may not work. Give a format a try after 6.2 is released, if that doesn't work then disable other hardware until you only have your vid card active in your system and see if something may be conflicting with it.

wtf, the guy just made the OP 10 hours ago. people do sleep, eat and work. lighten up.

i know if someone told me i needed to format to get a new graphics card working properly i'd be waiting for other suggestions.

Woah!! Too clever for me. What shall I ever do and how long will it take me to get over it.... There's no place like home.... There's no place like home.... click, click, click......

But seriously, Waiting for G71 is a more affable solution that what you suggest. Yes, agreed, little is confirmed about the G71, but this is not hypocritical whatsoever. So why not suggest something that is obtainable? SLI'd 7800GT's, or maybe an X1800XT that better drivers exist for?

You claim you can't recommend to wait for vaporware? G71 has not been launched yet, hence it can't be vaporware. The GTX512 might as well be vaporware because it is way to costly to justify buying. Unless you plan on a quick Ebay turnaround which is proving to be very lucrative to say the least. Your suggestion was of a scornful nature as if your feeling were hurt. Ridiculous. You think you only lost face to me? You must think I am the only person reading your posts. If you think I'm on some sort of pedestal, you must be feeling inferior in some way. Your problem, not mine.

Why would I suggest he buy older hardware like the X1800XT and 7800 GT? Are you slow? Wait don't answer that, I already know.

Okay, enough of RomperRoom. OP, just wait for the 6.2's as you said you were. Hopefully it will fully support the X1900's and address the issues you are having. As for the CCC. You can remove it and just use ATI Tool.

You say you don't have a preference but your words betray this.

"...there was a 2 year period where I only used ATI cards, and I guess buying an nVidia card was a breath of fresh air."

Sounds like you've really taken a liking to Nvidia. Now you're cranky because you've payed $500+ for a video card and things are not going smoothly for you. It's so easy to bash ATI and it might make you feel better, but it's not gonna fix your problems.

Personally, I think all these suggestions to reformat are silly. You need to start with just removing CCC and the drivers, make sure your system is clean and runs ok, then reinstall. If I were you I'd upgrade to .NET 2.0 if you haven't already. That's what I'm using and it works fine with 5.13 so I'm guessing it should work fine with any more recent Catalyst drivers.

If you're so sure it's the card then send it back and exchange it for another one. Maybe you have a defective card. I'm pretty sure that if it was a problem with ALL 1900 cards we would have heard someone else reporting it by now.

The original post mentions multiple lockups and crashes. Has anyone even bothered to ask the OP for his full system specs? I've read through most of this thread, and didn't see it. I know the X1900XT uses more power than a 256MB 7800GTX. What if it was a chance that his powersupply was only barely handling his previous card? That could be a cause for instability.

Anyway...just for curiosity, let's see your hardware OP.
Also, have you tried installing drivers straight off the ATI website? I tend to find that drivers on included discs usually don't work as well, but I suppose you'd probably have CAT 6.1's on the disc, so I guess that really shouldn't be an issue...hmm.

ATI stable. Yes, some people have problems with the 1900XT(X) but every video card from every manufacturer has people who have problems with it. It is the nature of computers.

I am a proud (well, I don't really have a personal attachment other than it is faster than my previous card, a 9600 Pro) owner of a 7800GTX but Rollo, please, your unabashed pro-Nvidia position is so humourous that I wish you would double your posts so I could use more  emoticons.

Edit: Had to fix a roll emoticon

lol. nah , its the nature of Microsoft...

Which version of windows are you running? have you tried reinstalling DX 9? somewhere I've heard problems with SP2 driver cleaning up and DX 9 files. Some of your DX9 files may have been overwritten when you installed the previous drivers.

Try uninstall DX9( if you havn't done so) and reinstall it, then update driver again?

That's an overclocking program. I assume you thought it was a newer version of ATI Tray Tools, which I believe still doesn't support the X1900XT.
