Read you topic showing played "WOW". Did not care to read your sad or sobbing story because it's long as heck but just here to give you some suggestions.

WOW is not going to give you anything.
WOW is not going to make you cum with a girl.
WOW is not going to give you a girl friend.
WOW is not going to pay the bills.
WOW is not going to buy you food when you get out of your parents house.

What WOW is going to do is make you bum, live off the street, etc....

Wow our education system really is fucked isn't it?

Reasons to play WoW:

WoW is an enjoyable way to spend time
WoW does not require you to become obsessed

<-- not a WoW player, but I see no reason not play WoW just some people can't manage themselves.

See here's the thing... you can't REALLY play WOW in moderation... or at least you couldn't back then. Maybe things have changed. But when I played... sure you could dick around and kill some random wandering monsters or do a few lame quests... but if you reach the end game... where all the juicy stuff is... i.e. raiding, and most of the people who claim moderation raided... You're playing too much. Period. Don't bother trying to rationalize it to me... I was there.... I did it. You're playing too much.

Most people who raided did not play in moderation
or
Most people who did not play in moderation raided

Which is the cause and which is the effect?

Also,

Lol. You sound like a war veteran or something.

I put it more like this.... if you didn't raid. You don't really play WOW.

Threads like this crack me up. What the hell happened to...oh, I don't know...self control? MMORPGs are ok in moderation, you have to know where your priorities are and limit yourself. WoW was never a problem for me or my wife, we've pretty much have been playing it off and on since a month or so after it came out. We've stopped lately because it bores us now and we have better things to do. Will we ever play again? Maybe, we've made some good friends. I just can't believe people let it control their lives. Grow up and learn some self control, that's all that's needed.

easier said than done, true to all kinds of addictions.

I mean ALL KINDS of addictions:

1) smoking
2) alcohol abuse
3) laxatives
4) illicit drug use
5) binge eating
6) gambling

the list goes on and on and on ....

you get my point.

Congrats on the kids - kids are lifechanging, aren't they??

I find that as I get older the memory of the passions/obsessions of my younger years are what make it possible to get through the life challenges. Whatever it is in my personality that enabled me to do that old stuff to excess and beyond, is what keeps me going when life gets ridiculous.

People really need to learn moderation with this game. There are too many people that act like this is a serious addiction. I see it all the time over at MMO, people stating that they need to quit, people glad they did quit. If you are really that addicted to this game you probably have an addictive personality and if you quit, you will likely replace this addiction with something else (i.e. watching TV for 4 hours a night, playing a different game, surfing the web...etc...).

If the game is starting to feel like work, then quit, but if you are having fun and it isn't hurting anyone, who cares. I used to play a lot, and when we had our daughter I cut down to 2 raiding nights a week. It affects my life for only 2 nights, and after she goes to bed. I've never felt the need to quit because I take 2 nights to myself to play the game. I don't understand all the drama over this, like it's some crazy drug that consumes people's lives. Go get hooked on pharms or be an alcoholic, when you end up making your family bankrupt or you end up in a gutter at 5am in the morning, you have a valid concern to get uptight about. A Video game? I don't get why people get so upset about playing them, maybe we need more of those video game boot camps to set people straight.

You only raid twice a week? How does your guild manage that schedule? I envision one of two things happening... either you're not seen as a particularly valuable member of the guild... or your Guild has issues getting into end game content so they only raid when you happen to be available. Either way, I imagine the situation is pretty temporary... I can't imagine everyone in your guild is ok with the way things are.

Thats the problem with the game in the end....you find yourself with artificial social obligations. Your cyber friends rely on you to play so that they can play. THis is the structure that leads to way too much time.

I mean like I said maybe they changed it since I quit... but I remember half the game was building a reputation of being reliable and effective in a raid. This meant farming your own mats, spending time building your character, and being available for raid nights. Otherwise you were perceived as a leach.

Glad to hear you've got things under control. On a side note though, you can play in moderation. I've been playing the game for years and I have a steadfast rule that I do not get on the game until the kids are asleep. I'll never allow myself to say stupid shit like "Sorry honey, daddy can't read to you right now cause I'm on the computer." I run a raiding guild and we raid 2-3 times a week only. We've always progressed well in the end game content.

There are raiding guilds with casual raiders in them. I am a member of a guild that tolerates this. Are we top guild on the server? No. Do I care? No. Being the best in WoW isn't something our guild strives for. We just log on when we can, and have a good time. If you are the type of person that wants to compete for the top, you should be sure you don't have other obligations, as being the best of anything requires a lot of dedication and time. I don't have that, so I adjusted my gaming situation accordingly by joining a guild that doesn't require strict attendance, and the game remained part of my life.

Instead of going to work in the morning, I'd sneak to a local coffee shop and spend the first 5-6 hours of the day raiding. Thus it even started affecting my work...
My salary has literally doubled since I regained my focus on work...
WoW... a helluva drug

You discovered vaginia and kicked the WoW habit? Awesome! :D

OP it's good to hear you were able to overcome your addiction to WoW, save your marriage and discover the happiness of fatherhood.

I'm trying to quit as well. Do you want to do it together? ;)

Sure! Your place or mine?

You only raid twice a week? How does your guild manage that schedule?

We only raid twice a week. Like someone above said, we're not at the top, but we do fine in progression and we enjoy it.

Same here, I quit 1 1/2 yrs ago...damn things changed. I'm so much happier and lost 43 lbs :awe: and found my new addiction...the gym

I have been going to the gym too now, just in the past month or so (on non-raid nights).
It is nice for sure (down 15 lbs. 15 more to go to get where I was when I started playing)

Will we ever play again? Maybe, we've made some good friends.

This is the part that makes my decision hardest. There are a lot of people I have met (many irl) who I consider very very good friends, that would be very very hard to leave them. I think I spend nearly half my game time sitting in Org chatting with people, the game itself is not so much the issue.

This was one of the reasons I never got into MMORPGs, the other being the monthly fee. Closest I got was Guild Wars and I spend way too much time with that even.

Glad to hear everything worked out in the end OP.
