Why do you care?

It's a waste of taxpayer dollars, and government efforts, obviously.

I get it, you hate prayer.

When I first read it I thought it was pretty stupid. Doesn't mean I'm going to out marching over to P&N to berate them for it. I won't assault the notion of them being free to do it.

These are a religious people. There's nothing wrong with them praying. It is not a substitute for action. It does not cost them time nor money. All it does is upset haters like you.

couldn't hurt.

it's not like they're saying "send the engineers home, we can pray this out."

Separation of church and state, bitches! :D

If some judge can't have the 10 commandments hanging on his wall, then states shouldn't be allowed to waste tax payer dollars and waste state government time with this garbage.

I'm sure clicking the "yes" button to vote took up a substantial amount of time and resources.

The resolution names Sunday as a statewide day of prayer in Louisiana and calls on people of all religions throughout the Gulf Coast "to pray for an end to this environmental emergency, sparing us all from the destruction of both culture and livelihood."

no specific religion appears to have been endorsed or mentioned.

So it's okay to misappropriate tax payer dollars and break the law separating nutjobs and state if it's only a little amount or effort? Where do you draw the line?

I wouldn't vote for it myself, but in terms of overall importance, I'd rank it right alongside the millions of bills like this that are passed by every single congress in every single state, as something not worth wasting your outrage over.

and I'm pretty sure that breaking the separation of church/state requires endorsing a specific religion.

When a Louisiana legislator offers prayer as a solution it sounds more like political grandstanding than anything else. The USA is supposed to be a secular nation with separation between church and State. And which God do we pray to? Maybe Buddha would be best in this case, or perhaps call a Druid. And did the Greeks have a God of oil? Did or does any religion have a God of oil to placate. And will sacrificing vestal virgins to that God placate it in any way? And if so, how many virgins are required? And for that matter, will non virgins and males do as well?

But then again, prayer can't hurt even if it may not help anything. Meanwhile, there is that old saying, God helps those that help themselves.

Louisiana is largely populated with backwards cajuns & rednecks. Their government is crap. The oil spill couldn't have happened to a better place IMO.

Its desperation. The failure of both BP and government to contain and mitigate the spill, which could have been done MUCH better and saved a ton of now oiled coastline, wetlands, marshes and bayous with no improvement in sight has led to outright desperation.

I think that is why they are praying. They have been and are being prevented from helping themselves.

And to answer your question about which God, they are hedging their bets "The resolution names Sunday as a statewide day of prayer in Louisiana and calls on people of all religions throughout the Gulf Coast "to pray for an end to this environmental emergency, sparing us all from the destruction of both culture and livelihood."

Yeah, and they catch the fish you eat and work the rigs that obtain the oil you depend on so desperately.

What a bunch of dumb fucks.

deep sea drilling will be more regulated then flying after this shit. In the end (a long long time from now) everything will be back to normal and hopefully safer.

Obama did it for 2 months... why do you care if they do it for 1 day?
