I got 40 MPG in my 2007 Accord Sedan

bah...my truck gets 9mpg in town. i proudly drive it around throwing out non biodegradable cheeseburger wrappers and beer cans. Just had the interior finished off in baby seal skin. Looks real good.

There's no way you got that with combined city and highway driving with the AC on.

Either that or you had a fierce tail wind the whole time.

The Scion brand was launched in 2004! Of course there is no data in 2005 that would prove they had bad reliability. LOL

I would think that has more to do with the drivers of the cars since Scion owners are younger than the car being bad since it's just a Toyota so if Scion is bad then Toyota must be the same. Younger owners would obviously beat on their cars more than older people.

Exactly. Many of the companies that do any type of reliability ratings base the system on how many services are needed per car. Young owners without a doubt are most likely to ignore services, drive recklessly, and of course...blame it on the car.

don't scions have the same engines as toyotas? Doesn't the TC have a camry engine? And yes, young people do treat their cars like crap. You have young males that treat their TC's like race cars and young girls who just can'y drive.

That's pretty good. I get around 49 to 50mpg in my 5-door '09 Yaris hatchback. We're the ones that'll be laughing when the gas prices go back up.

I worked at a dealership that picked up xBs and tCs all the time to sell. There is a unbelievable number of Scions with scrapes, dents and wheel rash. Scion targeting younger owners seemed to work, problem is, 16 year olds cant drive and cant take care f their cars.

Just did a calculation - 11.7L/100km city or 20.1 mpg - 92 Accord auto. 🙁 Worse than I was expecting, and I didn't beat on it at all on the last tank.

If I drive like a grandma I can get 35 MPG. Bores the shit out of me though...giving her hell and driving it as hard as I can (Without being stupid and pushing it too much beyond the occasional shift @ 8krpm) still nets me 25mpg. My real driving is somewhere in the mix of the two, and I'm fine giving up some MPG so as long as its a fun ride.

When I drove an 02 civic I got close to 30mpg just driving normally. For a week I drove no faster than 60 on the freeway, with minimal city traffic, and got 40 mpg. Who knows, maybe going a little faster would have given me a better power/gas ratio

Laughing? LOL no offense at all, but you'll be the one driving a Yaris 😉. If it makes you happy and you enjoy it that is fine...drive along =) But to people who enjoy driving the price difference in giving up a fuel efficient car for something that is pleasurable is easily worth the cost.
Of course, the people driving 15 mpg monstrosities on the road simply to take kids to schools and pick up groceries will probably feel the pinch....but I'm sure they have the $$ to handle it anyways...

Driving slowly and carefully, I can believe it. The Yaris 4 door has a .cd of .29 the 5 door has a .cd of .30, those are good, better than average numbers(average for cars is ~.32, great is ~.26, .25 for the new prius). Combine that with the diminitutive frontal area and it can slip through the air fairly easily i would think.

This is how I manually calculate it:

On the non-freeway roads, I always drive at the speed limit (sometimes -5mph slower if there's no one behind me).

I coast whenever possible and always accelerate slowly and at a steady pace.

Most of my driving is on the freeway @ ~55mph. The only times I'm not on the freeway are when I'm driving from my house to the freeway and from the freeway offramp to work or wherever else I want to go.

The coasting and steady acceleration have helped the most w/ getting better fuel economy.


The "miniscule" engine in the Yaris is pretty efficient as well.

Laughing? LOL no offense at all, but you'll be the one driving a Yaris 😉. If it makes you happy and you enjoy it that is fine...drive along =) But to people who enjoy driving the price difference in giving up a fuel efficient car for something that is pleasurable is easily worth the cost.
Of course, the people driving 15 mpg monstrosities on the road simply to take kids to schools and pick up groceries will probably feel the pinch....but I'm sure they have the $$ to handle it anyways...

Nope 40 MPG is truth if I go exactly 100km/h with some decent drafting (as expected since even the trucks are passing me). I've got the 4 cylinder model

Best my 08 XB ever got was 30mpg doing 65mph with the cruise on.
40mpg is not even possible unless you are doing 35mph on the highway i bet.

Yea, I thought this was horseshit too, but according to Natural Resources Canada, 45 mpg hwy is listed for the 2007 Accord 4-cylinder auto.

I could see 40 mpg given that you have the EX-L, which has more features than the base model (so it weighs more). Mind you, as with all government ratings, you would have to really baby the car to achieve it.
