Took a bath selling the house.
Moved to Oklahoma but have been living in Colorado (that's where my job went).

Ouch. Sucks that you moved down there just to have a biblical disaster happen. Lots of places are moving. At my once and future job, we weren't sure if we were staying there, but it seems like they want to keep a presence.

I'm hesitant to move back, but I'm happy to get back to my old work.

I will really miss the Catskills, though.

If your current stuff is pretty inexpensive, I'd just drop it at the door of Goodwill and re-buy. Or see if you can just sell it before leaving for $$.

Matresses, desks, and dressers can all be had pretty cheap. Again, on the assumption that it was cheap to begin with.

Just another thought from a guy who's moved to 4 different states in a similar number of years :)

Well, the TV was $2199 and it won't fit in my car... That pretty much kills it right there. I did, however, pay $250 for all of the other furniture, because my roommate's sister needed to move the stuff out of storage.

I might as well spend as much of the $2000 moving expense as I can. Even if it's a pain for a few days, that's not much compared to years of living. I've moved 24 times and I'm only 24 years old. This 25th time is going to be it for quite a while.

You've moved 24 times!!!! :Q Daumn man!

I'm 36 and I've moved exactly 5 times in my life. Good luck.

Actually, no.

To rent a tow dolly and truck one way is $3500 plus gas. To rent the truck and drive it down and back up is $500 plus gas. I've checked with two different companies and the prices are almost identical.

I'd buy a tow dolly at that rape.

I work in a data center. Normally a mundane task, but we are so swamped with strange workarounds and systems crippling each other that I think the place is going to fall apart soon.

WTF... buy a hitch and rent a small trailer, and tow the tv on the trailer. Done.

Can I have your GTO?

Why not ship the plasma and junk the rest. Drive down in your car and you are done. Buy insurance on shipping and you should be good to go. The banging that thing will take in the back of the rental truck is no worse then the banging in the back of a FedEx truck.

Why would I eat the cost of new furniture when the move is free up to $2000?

A Mazda 626 isn't designed to tow things.

I bet it would tow a small properly loaded trailer. I towed a trailer with a motorcycle (heavier than his tv) with a 200sx. I've towed small stuff with my 4 cyl ranger too (a truck, but the engine probably isn't much bigger (if any) than the 626)

What should I do with the rest of my furniture?

I will really miss the Catskills, though.

What really sucks is still being punished by Katrina.

I didn't get a penny from FEMA as I was rejected for god knows what reason.

I know what you mean, I will miss the Rocky Mountains (went snowboarding a couple of weeks ago), makes the Catskills look like ant hills, last time I ever put on ski's before was when I lived in New York in the 1970's.

Man, the FEMA scammers were out in force. It seems like the people that I know that really suffered loss didn't get much (if anything), and the people that didn't lose anything got huge checks.

no its not hard. Just take your time and watch your mirrors. Remember to take your turns wide.

After driving a bit, you'll feel more comfortable with it.

Well, it's 99.999% interstate, so that's a good thing.

Mmm, 24 hours in a moving van. Each way....

Ah, another (my time has no value) cost comparison. Just an observation, not a criticism, as I do it all the time, too. <g> It can be very difficult to let go of cash out of hand to create extra available time.

Time has little value to me.
