Was in my friend's car, on the way to lunch - He looked away from the road for a moment, and by the time he looked back, he had completely missed a yellow/red cycle on the light and was now on a collission course with a cross traffic '06 Civic Hybrid.

Brace and *SMACK*

Impact speed was probably 15-20mph.

'90 Ford Tempo GL - totalled (front end is all smashed in, engine runs, but the transmission cracked wide open).
'06 Honda Civic Hybrid - front passenger side quarter panel smashed in, lights, bumper damage.

No airbags in the Tempo, no airbags deployed in the Honda. Since both front quarter panels had buckled, we couldn't open either front door (not that opening his would have helped, there was a Civic there) - we just sat there for 15 minutes or so until the fire department arrived (they were unconcerned and after making sure we weren't dead or anything, immediately proceeded to sweep the debris onto the shoulder and kitty-litter the tranmission fluid) and an additional 10 minutes beyond that for a cop.

Mind you, this is on a busy street in the middle of town and a cop sitting on every other intersection. Not too sure why it was that slow.

Other driver was a big, fat, balding, middle-aged businessman. He was NOT thrilled, and absolutely refused to speak to either of us. Said something to himself, aloud, about "hurting his contribution to the environment" (wtf?!?) and generally made an ass out of himself. Tried to stop a witness (and our 911 caller) from giving us his card.

When they got the Civic hooked up to the tow, I had to climb out the window and help push the Tempo out of position so they "wouldn't hit each other" (I actually LOL'd at that).

After they got the Civic out, my friend climbed out the window and started to carefully inspect his precious (he LOVES that car for some reason) - he was intent on "rebuilding her" until I pointed out the kitty litter soaking up his transmission fluid. His story changed pretty quickly.

Around this time, Honda driver dissapeared (apparently he went to wait for a ride in the Harbor Freight's air conditioning, because we spotted him in there after we left) and our other friends arrived (we'd called them - they went to lunch at another location) - eventually, the second tow arrived (same truck, different driver, wtf) and we were soon out of there.

Consequentially, I was late to work (didn't leave the accident scene until I was supposed to be starting), and I still haven't had lunch. wtf.

Sorry, that came out completely discombobulated and broken. My mind is slightly scattered at the moment.

Oh, and I neglected to mention the best part. Another assjack actually ran the red light AGAIN and very nearly duplicated the accident circumstances before the cops had even arrived (missed by a few inches). That would've been REALLY interesting.

not sure what to say except you seem to be projecting a little hate towards the other driver who has all the right in the world to be as pissed as he's gonna be.

"and generally made an ass out of himself. "

if my car got hit by some jackass who ran a red, i'd be pissed too.

Yellow/Red cycles are pretty long, your friend wasn't paying very good attention. (And watch for those don't walk signs, means it's gonna chance soon)

Glad to hear you and your friend are alright though :)

Ok, so who ran the red-light? (flashing red is still red...yellow has right of way).

Why was the witness trying to give you his card? The accident was your friend's fault.

I think the Civic driver was pretty justified in being pissed - I would be too if someone hit me like that. Well right now I wouldn't mind it if someone totaled my car, I wouldn't mind a change. But a new car like that... I'd be pissed.

Pissed I can understand - pissed and trying to prevent us from collecting the information that we needed to cover our own asses is another matter.

I don't understand how a witness who saw you run a red light and smash into the side of a car is going to help you cover your asses.

Because getting EVERYONE involved's contact info is standard CYA procedure, whether they're going to say anything to your advantage or not - what's to prevent the other driver from swapping in his own witness ("yes, your honor, he was rolling around on the pavement in absolute pain and agony.") in any future lawsuits if we don't have even the slightest idea who this guy was?

And yes, it was my friend's fault, and yes, he admitted such to the cop, and yes, he was cited for running the red, and yes, he's prepared to own up to it.

In this town, not always. I've seen and timed yellows lasting less than a second. But it wasn't an issue at all related to the timing of the light, it was an absolute lack of attention.

"Good thing"? Don't you mean "too bad"? This IS ATOT, isn't it? I'm still EyeMWing, right?

I think he was referring to the person in the other car. I don't think he would have cared if it was you.
