Was in my friend's car, on the way to lunch - He looked away from the road for a moment, and by the time he looked back, he had completely missed a yellow/red cycle on the light and was now on a collission course with a cross traffic '06 Civic Hybrid.
Brace and *SMACK*
Impact speed was probably 15-20mph.
'90 Ford Tempo GL - totalled (front end is all smashed in, engine runs, but the transmission cracked wide open).
'06 Honda Civic Hybrid - front passenger side quarter panel smashed in, lights, bumper damage.
No airbags in the Tempo, no airbags deployed in the Honda. Since both front quarter panels had buckled, we couldn't open either front door (not that opening his would have helped, there was a Civic there) - we just sat there for 15 minutes or so until the fire department arrived (they were unconcerned and after making sure we weren't dead or anything, immediately proceeded to sweep the debris onto the shoulder and kitty-litter the tranmission fluid) and an additional 10 minutes beyond that for a cop.
Mind you, this is on a busy street in the middle of town and a cop sitting on every other intersection. Not too sure why it was that slow.
Other driver was a big, fat, balding, middle-aged businessman. He was NOT thrilled, and absolutely refused to speak to either of us. Said something to himself, aloud, about "hurting his contribution to the environment" (wtf?!?) and generally made an ass out of himself. Tried to stop a witness (and our 911 caller) from giving us his card.
When they got the Civic hooked up to the tow, I had to climb out the window and help push the Tempo out of position so they "wouldn't hit each other" (I actually LOL'd at that).
After they got the Civic out, my friend climbed out the window and started to carefully inspect his precious (he LOVES that car for some reason) - he was intent on "rebuilding her" until I pointed out the kitty litter soaking up his transmission fluid. His story changed pretty quickly.
Around this time, Honda driver dissapeared (apparently he went to wait for a ride in the Harbor Freight's air conditioning, because we spotted him in there after we left) and our other friends arrived (we'd called them - they went to lunch at another location) - eventually, the second tow arrived (same truck, different driver, wtf) and we were soon out of there.
Consequentially, I was late to work (didn't leave the accident scene until I was supposed to be starting), and I still haven't had lunch. wtf.
