YAXBOXT... Which new game for the XBOX?

Ok I have $200 from my birthday Monday and nowhere to spend it! I haven't been keeping up with new releases, what's the best new game for the XBOX? I have played the old hat Halo and Morrowind already so those won't do...

What kind of games do you like?! If action's your thing, I'd wait for Splinter Cell. GOTY contender IMHO. : )

Just read the gamespot review of that... looks very interesting. I like this type of game but so far James Bond 007 doesn't strike my fancy.

Also, MechAssault looks good and so does upcoming B1942. Oh and MOH looks really good too. I played that on PC and it was great.

The Xbove Live! kit, for starters. Unreal Championship, MechAssault, Ghost Recon, Splinter Cell, aaaaaack! I'm going to be poor!

I refuse to buy the Live Kit. I hate subscription services 🙁 If Xbox would allow me to play without a fee, ala battle.net, I would pay the one-time fee of 49.99 for the service or support Live-enabled game prices being raised a little to account for their costs.

Well, you are going to miss out on a fantastic gaming experience. But then again, if it bombs then you would have saved $50.

New games? Shenmue II, NHL 2k3, Splinter Cell......there are others, but without getting the live service they probably won't be worth your money.

The next few weeks will give you plenty of reasons to spend that money. Splinter Cell should be numero uno on your list. Since you aren't interested in XBox Live, Unreal Championship and Mechassault may not appeal to you. If a ToysRUs is near you, drop by and look for the Splinter Cell demo DVD. It has a $5 off coupon on the back for when it comes out.

Edit: NBA 2K3 is supposed to be awesome. I'm not a big fan of the NBA, but I may get that game anyway.

Some good games that have just come out or will soon

Shenmue II
Metal Gear Solid
Splinter Cell
MechAssault
Unreal
Ghost Recon

Ok so far

Medal of Honor
Splinter Cell
NBA 2k3
MechAssault

are all on my list. Hard part is deciding which comes first.

You do realize that the first year of service with Xbox live is free dont you? Its your choice if you want to continue after that point.

I didn't. That changes things, but I still think they should give lifetime access once you buy the system and games.

W00T!!!!

Top Ten Things I Love About the Splinter Cell Demo

10. Guns don't kill people...Sam Fisher kills people 😀
9. Lightbulbs make nice tinkly sounds when a bullet passes though them.
8. Mindless goons make nice crumple-to-the-floor sounds after a bullet or two passes through them.
7. Interrogation is to foreplay as smashing a pistol butt into someone's temple is to sex.
6. All those PCs and not one has CS loaded (actually, that requires too much suspension of disbelief for me)
5. Mmmmmm...fiber optic camera. No wait...nightvision goggles. No wait...infrared goggles.
4. Lightbulb manufacturers rejoice! Somebody's gonna need a BUNCH of replacements real soon...
3. Mindless goons rejoice! Somebody's gonna be hiring a BUNCH of you real soon...
2. Sam Fisher is even more of a John Doe name than, well...John Doe!

and finally...
1. Running through curtains never felt--or looked--so good before.

Ya, and they should pay you to play their games too.

MS has to pay for the bandwidth you know, not to mention the upkeep of all the servers. I'm sure MS is going to be using some OC3+ lines or something crazy like that to support all the online users. Rest assure, when you pay that big ass $50/yr, you'll get all the bandwidth you can handle. That alone is worth $50/yr! Sh!t, PC gamers playing Everquest are paying $12 per MONTH to play that game ALONE! I think one year free plus $50/yr after that is a pretty damn good deal!

And Diablo, Warcrarft and Starcraft users pay ZERO to play online whenever they want. So what I want to know is, why in the hell would you pay a monthly fee to play a game online when you don't have to? Blizzard has shown free online gaming can be done, and anyone who pays for the priveledge is stupid.

Oh, holy sh!t, they are supporting ONE game! That is AWESOME! Do you actually think before you post? MS is supporting ALL games that are built for XBox Live! You pay $50/per year and you get to play WHATEVER game you'd like with it (XBox Live compatible). Not to mention all the bandwidth you can handle and built in voice support. The only people that are stupid are the ones that can't understand the infrastucture behind this and what kind of money it takes to support it. If you don't want to pay, keep playing single player.

That would not be one game, it would be three. The cost of the servers to run these games are payed for by buying the game. If Blizzard (and other game manufacturers) can do this, why can't Microsoft? I can see why it's required for Everquest because it's strictly an online game, but games that have a single player element also get money from people who only play the single player aspect. That's the way I view it, and I will not ever pay a recurring subscribtion cost for any game. If I wanted multi-player gaming, my friends and I can setup a LAN tournament like we have done many times in the past. Subscription services can kiss my ass and so can you 😀

Take BF 1942, great game and you can play online for "free", but most servers are unplayable on.
The EA servers are laggy and switch maps too much.
I only good servers are the ones the comunity supplies.
Thats not included in the cover price of the game.
So, there is someone out there spending hundreds of dollars to support our gaming. (and I really thank you for it)
I think $50 is nothing compaired to what a good gaming server cost, not including the bandwith.

Microsoft can count me in. Thats if I can find a stupid pre-order somewhere.

I think by different games, he meant "from different publishers," which is a whole other ball of wax.
The cost of the servers to run these games are payed for by buying the game.
Economies of scale help here, since Bizzard is seeing the money from the sale of the games directly, and they can use a common infrastructure to support 3 games, rather than having to build a separate infrastructure for a single game
If Blizzard (and other game manufacturers
Examples?
) can do this, why can't Microsoft? I can see why it's required for Everquest because it's strictly an online game,
Why? According to what you yourself JUST said, the initial cost of purchasing Everquest should be all that's required.
but games that have a single player element also get money from people who only play the single player aspect.
How does that statement help prove your point in any way, shape, or form?
That's the way I view it, and I will not ever pay a recurring subscribtion cost for any game.
Ummmmm....OK. Still not sure how you've proved your point...which I believe is "Game publishers should foot all the costs of online play and not charge monthly fees ever." I think 😕
If I wanted multi-player gaming, my friends and I can setup a LAN tournament like we have done many times in the past.
Isn't this just like what many people do with the built-in multiplayer support on the Xbox, if they so wish? Doesn't cost a dime to do that, last time I checked.
Subscription services can kiss my ass and so can you 😀
If you feel that way, fine. This thread obviously isn't discussing something you are interested in. Is it so hard to just move on, rather than being rude? 😕
