YAWoWT: So I'm leveling a Pally in WoW

So I've decided to try my hand at a healing class.

I can't stand playing priests because... of well.. something that happened a while ago
I tried a druid, but feral spec was just too damn tempting,
so here I am with a pally.

All in all, I actually find the class to be pretty fun. My main is a lvl60 hunter in a raiding guild, so playing something besides a DPS class is pretty refreshing at times. I don't know if this is a novity that will eventually wear off, but i've been enjoying it.

grouping and party play have been great so far - it's strangely satisfying when you land a critical heal on the tank, able to keep that mage up while he's AoEing the crap out of everything (BoP wins), and giving out some of the best buffs in the game (though at this point, i'm limited to might and wisdom).

I'm still learning the ropes of everything though, trying to balance out mana efficiency and healing, still learning which heals to cast, and when (my last group run I was over 30% in overhealing), and how to not pull agro via healing.

Solo play though, makes me want to stab myself.
I just CANNOT kill things fast enough to make any reasonable progress. eg. last night, I had to go deep into this orge camp to retrive some crate. I was stalled half way in because they were respawning as fast as I was killing them.
I'm using a 1h mace + shield combo atm, I tried switching to a heavy 2h, which does up my damage quite a bit, but then I find myself healing half the time i'm fighting.

I finally just sucked it up and re spec'd some points into the retribution tree, up until seal of command, so maybe that will help a bit, but I haven't had much of a chance to play with it yet. I'm definately missing my nearly uninterruptable heals from holy spec though.

So any high lvl pallys out there? any advice for leveling?
To me, the retribution tree looks like it could help out, but I also find it useless for grouping, as I don't even put up seals and judgements while in a party (no JoW / JoL yet). The protection tree doesn't even make sense to me as I still don't really understand shield mechanics (block value? wtf?)

Druids are fun to solo - I think Pally's are probably just not going to solo very well.

Stop playing WoW, it is an addiction. You will just end up hurting yourself, and the people who care about you.

Rogue is a hella fun class to level. I said hella, so it must be true. Beating people over the head with heavy objects while stealthed FTW!

I breezed through the game solo as a paladin until about level 35-40. At that point I was lucky to still be awake at the end of a fight. I was never in danger, it just took forever. Of course, that made sense since I was a shield paladin. Still, having played hunter, mage, rogue, and priest, paladin was by far the most testing solo experience at level 40ish. At level 1-20, though, priest was an utter nightmare.

Out of all of the healing classes I've found the Druid to be the easiest to solo. I have a low level priest and I enjoy playing him with a group but there is too much downtime solo. I've never played a pally. One of these days I'll roll one. My first DAoC character was a pally. I really liked him.

32prot, rest in Retribution... (only 53...)

Typical combat.
First rule, low on mana or think I will get multiples, SoW then move in.
Judge it then use SoC + Judgement when available till opponent is no more.

SoTc if its a solo mob and no adds expected, judge that, then use SoC and judgement till it dies.

Shield/Weapon is a little slower, but I run Ret Aura, have a spiked Shield, and Holy Shield when critted which does result in some cool numbers.

As far as Ret/Etc (non-Holy) spec in groups, just hang back and heal. You can pop Conc Aura to make it easier to get the heal off if your under fire...

geeky enough?

Too bad people don't care for Feral spec'd in groups. They can heal too!

My first toon was a pally, I leveled her (Gingerbread) to 60. Pally types are painful to level because it takes an hour to kill anything. On the flip side, it is next to impossible to die in a 1 on 1 PvE encounter. I went holy tree to be helpful in groups. a holy spec pally should have no trouble getting groups. The most fun was:
my other level 60s
Druid (Kwai) fun to play, can do anything, ultimate hybrid.
Rogue (Kunoichi) easy button. Kills so fast.
Warlock (feMaleficent) Much more tactical gameplay.

Then I got bored and quit.

Anyone playing CivCity Rome?

No one really minds feral until high level. At least when I played (year ago), people were glad to have any healer other than paladin until the raid levels.

So you're saying this is the closest he's going to get to an intervention?

Don't worry you will get your pallies soon enough.
My second toon is a pally, i found him much easier to level than my druid, but thats probably because i knew what the hell i was doing the second time around.

I have a 60 druid. I'm feral spec, but naturally, I heal too. I have healing gear and tanking gear, and he's a lot of fun to play. :)

hrmm Im assuming SoC is Command, as it wouldn't make sense to do multiple crusader judgements, and that would override JoW wouldn't it?

that's strange though, because everyone I've talked to always says the first thing I should do when going 1on1 is put up crusader judgement
