You are speculating a ton with that statement. Stick to proven facts my friend.

Either way...the advertising IS working.

Speculating nothing. Android is licensed at no charge and it's public knowlege that Google is paying carriers to carry Android devices.

Browsing your posts, we need to get you laid STAT dude...

According to something I just read, you need to find a black female that smokes, doesn't go to church or is Jewish, is a fan of Jazz, and her parents didn't read to her. :)

(I guess she needs to be a WM fan as well)

haha i needed a good smile for this monday. i dont particularly like jazz, not sure where that is from... is all that from past posts i made? none of it really makes sense.

and yes, ive been single for 4 years, getting divorced this month and havent dated at all (since 1990 i believe). i could use some poon, but im doing just fine without that particular door to crazy being opened.

winmo is not a requirement, i dont know anyone else at all that has it besides me. if the new winmo isnt all its expected to be, ill end up with an android phone. it does pretty much everything i want it to do lol.

IMO, it has little to do with the OS itself. Most people don't even know what Android is.

You said consumers choice has little to do with the OS and that most people don't know what Android is. That is major speculation without links to prove it.

Type one a physical keyboard.

Free navigation.

Only the Droid has the physical keyboard and it's not anywhere near impressive. With a good on screen keyboard you could forget that you have a hard keyboard. I know many refuse to switch over, but there's a learning curve with it all. Plus, many of the newer devices aren't hardware keyboards anyway, so this argument is barely there.

Free navigation is nice, but with the prevalence of GPS units, Google Maps is meh... plus you would need a good car mount anyway. Not like you can't get the Tom Tom App for iPhone or anything. I mean it's a nice gimmick, but I use Google Maps in general for directions to give someone while driving or I premap and to get an idea. My Garmin does the bitchwork if I need turn by turn.

But seriously, can you not "download a song while finding a decent burger joint" an an iPhone? Multitasking and taking names? Sorry I don't know the new Droid X commercials as much. Oh wait. They talk about being a media consuming machine or whatever. lol. I actually think the app adds for the iPhone are pretty cool. The Droid ads are meh. Probably more sci-fi-like and tend to get gadget nerds like us. I guess that's why they say Android's a man's OS? Heh.

dwell had asked what the average Joe would think Android device had that an iPhone didn't.

Once again...there is nothing wrong with the iPhone. Its slick, pretty and does a good job. The point was that people are learning Android is just as good.

EDIT:
I paid $4 to Cowboom for a cup holder mount that is perfect for me. They had plenty of others in that price range. I'm a firm believer that everyone should have a decent car mount so you don't have to dig it out of your pocket while driving.

I've been using Google Navigate ever since I got my Incredible, and it simply blows my old GPS unit out of the water. Real-time traffic and road incidents, rerouting, satellite and street view. Unlimited points of interest because you are pulling all your info straight from the net lol. All free and one click away. It even mutes my Pandora music while reading out the turn-by-turn instructions over the car stereo... amazing! It's simply in a class of its own.

I guess that's why they say Android's a man's OS?

Huh?

When I put on my general consumer hat and watch those commercials, all I hear is, "Droid does... a bunch of shit I don't care about."

Seriously, can you name anything in those commercials that an everyday person would say, "Wow, that's something I am sorely missing on the iPhone."? I can't.

the reverse is also true. ive never see an apple "there's an ap for the commercial" that made me want that ap or any ap for that matter

I strongly disagree that any standalone GPS is as good as Google Navigation. Always up to date is the best part. I was driving yesterday and I noticed the green light in the bottom corner was red (it's usually green) and I wasn't sure what it was. Turns out it's a traffic indicator (green low traffic, yellow moderate, and red bad traffic). I though it was odd as the road looked find. 10 minutes later I was in stopped traffic on the freeway.

Also Google Navigation renders soooooo much more smoothly than the TomTom I was using.

If you forget, when the Droid commercials were out, iPhone still couldn't multi-task. How sad. There's still tons the iPhone can't do that a Droid can that the average consumer would want right out of the box, customization is one. I don't want to keep going and going and going.

I was always the type that demanded a hardware keyboard, and in March I bought an HD2 as an experiment into the on-screen world. I've used HTC's keyboard, Swype, the Android default keyboard, Better Keyboard, and Android Swype - all on a 4.3" screen - and I still hate it, and therefore will be going back to a hardware keyboard for my next phone.

No offense, but its silly to discount something like that just because it doesn't matter to you. The question was, what features do they advertise that the iPhone can't do - and this is definitely one of those features, whether that's a feature that matters to you personally or not.

Free navigation is nice, but with the prevalence of GPS units, Google Maps is meh... plus you would need a good car mount anyway. Not like you can't get the Tom Tom App for iPhone or anything. I'm going to have to respond to this with the same points as my second paragraph above. A lot of people don't have standalone GPS units, but do have cell phones. Besides - one of the original selling points of the iPhone was that it did everything, you didn't need separate devices (exemplified by the annoying guy who talked about how he used to carry around 4 devices, and now he just has an iPhone) - so to say there are standalone units that can do the job as well or better, well, that's not a very good argument. Might as well not consider the quality of the media player on a smartphone either, since standalone PMPs are so prevalent, right?

That's because you're supposed to take your Apple fanboy hat off first.

This thread is hilarious. Android is exploding in England despite every carrier having the iPhone. Verizon iPhone isn't a magic bullet.

this. personally i like the iphone for what it is. but i also like other OSes as well. i like to customize and personalize. i know i could do that on the iphone as well with a bit of work, but its still on att. even if it were to come to vzw, i dont think id get one. unless it suddenly could replace mine in respect to the file explorer being able to save email attachments, customization and remote connection capabilities. it would also have to be cheaper than its competition on vzw for me to look at it seriously. in the end, its all about pricing. if my monthly access cost stays the same, the phone is what has to give me the lower cost.

Yup, "not proclaiming yourself a douchebag" is Android's killer ap. :D

Yeah, I'm sure there's a huge market for the anti-Apple crowd  On one hand there's this guy, while Apple "douchbags" actually live normal lives and don't spend their weekends compiling custom Android ROMs in their mother's basements.
