here's a brilliant idea - pay servers regular hourly wages and do away with tipping.

crazy idea, i know.

Here's a better idea - Read the fucking thread. CA servers already get paid regularly hourly wages and every state in the US must pay them, if tips are counted as credit towards, the federal minimum wage. In other words, if you don't tip them, they still make minimum wage.

I think his point was a living wage, not minimum wage.

when my sisters were servers (this was not in CA), they made $2.30/hr + tips. some paychecks were negative because they were only paid 2.30/hr.

So, 5 Bay Area restaurants will charge all customers a mandatory 20% tips or service charge. They're saying that this will eliminate tipping, by adding mandatory service charge. 😵

LOL.

F?

I, for one, will not be visiting any of these establishments.

So you bitch about tipping and say they should just raise the food prices and when they do, you bitch further.

I bet you carry a purse....I mean man bag.

Good luck getting hours if you keep needing your paychecks adjusted to minimum wage.

Why do you always come off as a wise and beautiful woman? Is it really necessary?

I never bitched about tipping.

It's in San Francisco where everyone, even waiters, make minimum wage plus tips. So for shitty service you are still forced to tip? No thanks.

The fact that this is in Bay Area (the breeding grounds for all things liberal cestpool) is not surprising. However, this won't go anywhere because any owner whom isn't retarded will notice an immediate backlash in the coming months. Those are 5 restaurants I wouldn't step foot in ever again.

Tip is earned, not expected. If you sucked balls I have the right to tip you 10% or 0.02 if I so choose. It depends how much you pissed me off with your piss-ant attitude.

So, you tip a server to make their lives better? Do you tip your garbage man? How about the poor guy working at McDonalds? Do you tip your mechanic?

What makes servers special? Oh, that's right, the idea they get paid less than minimum wage is what makes it "acceptable" to tip them, despite that not being the case. You will hear plenty of them crying about making $3.25 an hour and needing tips to survive. They aren't paid that.

Correct. They are paid $3.25 by their employer PLUS tips UNLESS the tips don't push that amount past federal/state minimum wage. In which case, the employer has to make-up the difference.

Shut the fuck up crying about waiters being the sufferers of all employment 🙄

Plus, this is EXACTLY what business owners want. When something like this happens, a bunch of you RETARDED FUCKS jump out and defend the waiters, too stupid to realize that NONE OF IT IS GOING TO THEM. 🙄

Exactly, it's no longer tipping. What the fuck is the point of calling it a tip? Just increase your prices 20%? Oh wait. You want to secretly hide the cost to your human eyes. My tip is the same price as the guy next to me as the guy next to him. How is that a tip?

Much like alcohol drinks do not have to show nutrition facts, or when people don't see the price of a drink they just naturally order it anyways. Shit like this should be illegal and these businesses should made an example of.

Yes, IRT to your attitude towards those serving you.

Wait, what attitude is that? I know you're not retarded, so stop acting like it.

My protest was towards the 20% mandatory service charge, regardless of level of service. What's your interpretation of it?

Man there are some real idiots on this forum, and that's saying a lot.

So instead of posting, don't go.

Many places here have mandatory service charges.

/hands SSSnail a tissue.

Forced tips are ridiculous.

The whole point of the tip is to pay untaxable money directly to the person that served you, not pay more for the product/service.

one core issue: you can't get 100 people to agree on the point of tipping. i'll be surprised if you can find 10 people to agree.

Of all the ignorant things you posted, this ranks among the top.
still your cheap....20% is the minimum...

No seriously, what's the big deal? They've effectively raised the prices on everything by a flat 20% to cover expenses and no longer accept tips.

Everything is upfront, no more post-meal awkwardness as you stare at the tip line.

Because it's really not about tipping, it's about having to pay more 🙁

I used to love delivering food and being told "We can't afford a tip"

Fortunately my employer would then black list them until they came in with a tip for the driver.

OK, it's fine if you're a pleb that accepts any kind of service. For you, 20% of $10 isn't much. When I tip for service, I tip for a job well done.

Your McDonald servers don't really care what ketchup goes with your fries, and I get it. Quit acting like you're a big shot.

Oh, and it's "you're".

Share the restaurant you went too.

I hate to break it too you, but tipping is about just basic service in table waiting and that costs 15%.

You are the asshat that goes to a TGIF with all the other crowd, prime time on a Friday night (or better Valentine's Day) and expects to be immediately seated, have no wait for a refill and a 5 star experience for your 2 meals for $20 combo and then stiff the server because of your choice.

The restaurant's solution of including the service with the food cost should have solved your problem...instead you now blame them for that.

You obviously think all wait-staff is rolling in dough for some reason....
