i was trying to be generic. owner of restaurant waits on your table, owner of barbershop cuts your hair, etc.

yeah you tip
That's if they know there's a good incentive. Some people don't tip because they have never received the full manual on every last damn job that traditionally relies on tip money. And of course, instead of just saying, "tipping is normal for this kind of job," you get rude or subpar service. Reasoning by customer: "Gee, the service here sucks. I'll go somewhere else."Originally posted by: Xavier434
You just need to learn how to use it better. If you are a regular customer and the people know you as a good tipper then you will get better quality service hands down. Yes, I realize you are paying for the services and they should be good quality anyways but this is reality. People do a better job when there is a good incentive. Look at it as paying a few extra bucks for the "quality package" vs the "normal package".
Hell no. I expect the owner of the establishment to do that job.Originally posted by: Nitemare

Who the fuck expects napkins and plates with their pizza?
When you take a shit in a public restroom do you want the janitor to wipe your ass, too?
If they want a tip from me they better
Tradition, system, method, whatever. I don't like it, because it also puts the pay of the employees at the mercy of moody, uninformed, or mathematically-impaired customers. If someone feels like being an ass, they can tip 1 cent and leave, and it may be no fault of the waitress. Maybe the meal itself was substandard, and the lighting at the table sucked. So don't tip the waitstaff? It's not like it's their fault the cook is new, or that the establishment is temporarily out of proper replacement lightbulbs.Originally posted by: Amused
Tipping is not a "tradition." It is a system for paying personal service providers that puts total power in the hands of the customer. When the provider knows that his pay is solely based on how happy he makes his customer, he is far more likely to go out of his way to make that customer happy.
An hourly employee only needs to make his boss happy. If you want restaurant service to be as bad as your average non-commission retail store, go ahead with your ignorant hate of the tipping system. Imagine going to your fav restaurant and getting the same crappy "where the fsck is anybody" service you get at Home Depot or Best Buy.
Maybe it's time to rethink your position?

I usually give about $3. We live less than a mile from any place we order from.

Why do you tip simply because you're given service?

thats where i reside as well usually, barring bad service or wrong pie. i also have started to mention to the drivers to get their buck fiddy from the store, since they are charging that for delivery. pisses me off they have a delivery fee as it is, since the company doesnt pay mileage (that i know of), doesnt supply the vehicles and has no further expense over a picked up order.
