it depends really on who all is paying for the pizza. if it was just me buying i'd probably tip like $4 or $5.

but when i was in myrtle beach 6 of us split 4 of those $5 pizzas from pizza hut, and we each just put $5 down. te total was like $22 or some crap and since we all had 5's we just gave the lady $30. it was like a 60 year old lady too and it made her really happy so when i gave her the money i felt pretty good.

if he's cutting your hair you better tip. how else does he take care of you?

i was trying to be generic. owner of restaurant waits on your table, owner of barbershop cuts your hair, etc.

Why do you tip simply because you're given service?

That's if they know there's a good incentive. Some people don't tip because they have never received the full manual on every last damn job that traditionally relies on tip money. And of course, instead of just saying, "tipping is normal for this kind of job," you get rude or subpar service. Reasoning by customer: "Gee, the service here sucks. I'll go somewhere else."

Who the fuck expects napkins and plates with their pizza?

When you take a shit in a public restroom do you want the janitor to wipe your ass, too?

If they want a tip from me they better
Hell no. I expect the owner of the establishment to do that job.

Tipping is not a "tradition." It is a system for paying personal service providers that puts total power in the hands of the customer. When the provider knows that his pay is solely based on how happy he makes his customer, he is far more likely to go out of his way to make that customer happy.

An hourly employee only needs to make his boss happy. If you want restaurant service to be as bad as your average non-commission retail store, go ahead with your ignorant hate of the tipping system. Imagine going to your fav restaurant and getting the same crappy "where the fsck is anybody" service you get at Home Depot or Best Buy.

Maybe it's time to rethink your position?
Tradition, system, method, whatever. I don't like it, because it also puts the pay of the employees at the mercy of moody, uninformed, or mathematically-impaired customers. If someone feels like being an ass, they can tip 1 cent and leave, and it may be no fault of the waitress. Maybe the meal itself was substandard, and the lighting at the table sucked. So don't tip the waitstaff? It's not like it's their fault the cook is new, or that the establishment is temporarily out of proper replacement lightbulbs.

I've honestly not seen much difference between the service at standard retail stores or restaurants. In either case, the people are doing a job they generally don't like, putting on façade of "I really care about how you're doing today."

An hourly employee can make his boss happy by making customers happy. Keep customers coming back, and it can help sales, which makes boss happy. If customers comment on good service (and it does happen), managers do take note of it, at least in my experience. As we're told in my project management class, "Motivation comes from within." A person can be an ass at a tip-based job, a wage-based job, or a salaried job.

pizza, usually tip $2 no matter the price of the pizza.

If I order $10 worth of pizza or $25(I can't think I've ever spend more than $25 on delivery pizza, maybe $30).

Read the bold part again. In order to become a regular, you need to start off as a new guy. Trust me. In the majority of cases, being a regular who tips well works out in your favor.

In general, doing favors for people will end up working out to your benefit whether it be done through tipping or whatever. I am continuously amazed at the lengths that some strangers will go for me just because they are convinced that I am there looking out for them. I end up being one of the few that is separated in their mind from the rest of the "asshole customers or strangers". Sometimes the differences in treatment end up being little things here and there, but if you make a habit of establishing this sort of relationship with as many people as you can then you will be shocked at how much those little things add up and just make your life more enjoyable. People are at there best when they work together and are looking out for each other.

I live in a gated community that is a pain the ass to drive in (it just happens to be near where I went to school and the rent was reasonable which was surprising).

Because of that the pizza dude will always get at least 3 bucks from me, I think last time I tipped it was new years eve (during the day), he got there in 25 minutes, didn't call the gate got in (probably followed someone), drove up and exceeded all my expectations. I just handed him all my cash which worked out to something like 7 bucks and he promised he would always deliver to our place quickest :D

He kept his word too, my roommate ordered pizza and he got to our place in 20 minutes. But my roommate didn't tip him so well and now we're off the priority list and I haven't had occasion to order pizza to stick us back on it :(

2-3 bucks

perfect answer

thats where i reside as well usually, barring bad service or wrong pie. i also have started to mention to the drivers to get their buck fiddy from the store, since they are charging that for delivery. pisses me off they have a delivery fee as it is, since the company doesnt pay mileage (that i know of), doesnt supply the vehicles and has no further expense over a picked up order.

"Please tip the driver

Some people are not aware of this. I didn't know for a long time. You're supposed to tip the pizza delivery driver like you tip the waiter. They rely on tips and use their own car. This site will explore your questions about tipping and how you can speed up the delivery time.

Your tips are greatly appreciated. It's what keeps drivers moving.

Do they earn the tip?

Absolutely. Drivers perform a service by bringing dinner to your door. They take on financial costs and difficulties, more than most people realize. Pizza delivery is considered a hazardous job by the US government. They are third most likely to be murdered on the job, right after police officer and taxi driver."

the delivery fee is to cover part of the wages and insurance for having a delivery staff.

I don't agre with it, but if everyone was happy to come in and get their food it'd be a lot easier on the restaurant.
