YASP (Yet another SARS post)-- SARS could be Chinese bio-weapon: Russian expert

if it was a bio weapon, wouldn't it be:
1. More deadly? At 3% death rate, it hardly seems like a weapon.
2. used against other people? So far china (including HK) has suffered the most from SARS.

Being a Chinese myself, I wish that article is not true.

However, 3% dealth is only because that virus might be leaked out to the public somehow, in real weapon form, it could be more intense. I don't know, I hope it is not true.

Doesn't seem like a very good bio-weapon. You'd probably get the same results by sending a guy who doesn't wash his hands after #2 into Times Square...

India and China aren't exactly the best of chums. Not to mention SARS only seems to be killing the very young and very old. A bio-weapon would want to target prime-of-lifers.

And I remember the "unbiased" Indian news sources during the Kashmir conflicts.

This is similar to the claims that the West Nile Virus is a biological weapon brought over here by terrorists.

Most likely isn't true.. either that or their biological weapons suck.

that would be a sh*tty prototype. all u need is a little small pox 1.0 and u'll wreak thousands of time more havoc then sars😛

well.. since when SARS start to spread , i knew it all along it was a bio weapon from China
come on.. if china didn't make this damn virus , why would they hide from it ,
people in taiwan all know that SARS is from China's bio weapon, bc a outbreak caused the virus to airborn
which it affected many in china, which then it was carried to HK, and HK as a center of spreading pool... then the virus get carry around the world.. it is just a matter of time before USA get infected by SARS, im going to buy my mask =]

come on guys, isn't it so obvious that SARS is an accident bio weapon from China ... wat's better than to sabotage
an enemy country with a flu-like virus, and get away with it !!!

I hope that was sarcastic.

The real secret to this bio-weapon is that the flu-like symptoms are only the first stage. Its the "survivors" that eventually have their bodies EXPLODE and kill hundreds from impact with the little pieces.

1.) A bioweapon that doesnt kill, but does incapacitate large number of troops for a while doesnt sound that bad as a weapon candidate to be used on territory you want to occupy long term. Unlike say, anthrax, which has a nasty habit of sticking around for a looooooooong time in spores in the soil.
2.) Russia had a little outbreak of anthrax a while ago... it was from their weapons program, got leaked out of containment somehow (I forget how), and 50 some people got infected/killed by it, IIRC.

Really, however, since SARS pretty much breaks the paradigm for bio weapons, its more like the rubber bullet of bio weapons (assuming it is one), its not likely to be a BW. The only thing that makes it look like it might be one is the fact that China's government concealed the outbreak from W.H.O. I rather doubt it is a BW, but if I were a tinfoil beanie collector, I can see making a case for it being used by China prior to invading Taiwan.

nah.. be a taiwanese, i don't want to see china use bio weapon against us.. that's juss tsk tsk ..

btw ..

MOSCOW: A top Russian medical expert has said that the deadly virus, which causes atypical pneumonia or Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) could be a biological weapon developed by China. According to the member of Russian Medical Sciences Academy, Professor Sergei Kolesnikov, SARS virus is a hybrid of two viruses, which can only be produced in laboratory conditions,...

it takes an expert to figure this out?
