*OFFICIAL* 99% of BestBuy's employees have the IQ of a houseplant and the customer service drive of the guy that cleans the grease fryer at Jack in the Box. :|

After this morning's phone conversation (below) I got aggravated and went to the store. I asked for a MOD. (Manager on Duty...not "mod" :Q)

I explained my situation and showed her the raincheck. She just happened to be the "Product Manager" for the store. That's what her nametag said anyway.

She went and pulled their latest inventory. They showed 7 drives in stock, yet none were on the shelves and none were in the raincheck hold area.

Hmm. She went looking and lo-and-behold, they were all stashed under some obscure counter behind a bunch of keyboards. Nice.

The whole time, the guy I spoke w/this morning was standing there w/his thumb up his @ss going "wow...look at that....where'd those come from?"

Apparently, WD changed the packaging. (from the cardboard box to the clear plastic package you have to cut open). Ergo, the SKU number changed so when JohnnyTeenAngst was searching, of course it showed "no stock."

INSTEAD OF CHECKING TO SEE IF THEY HAD GOTTEN IN ANY 120GB WD's all he searched on was the SKU.

The manager apologized, we BSd for awhile, I paid and left.

240GB of storage for $160, plus a 3-year warranty. Not bad.

Thanks to those that listened to me complain. AT: my free Psychotherapy. :D

Yet Another Screwed By Best Buy Thread. (Did I invent a new acronym, BTW? )

Three weeks ago, Best Buy was selling the 120GB WD SE drives for $80, no MIRs. They sold out .5 seconds after opening their doors on Sunday. I got a raincheck for two. I've called twice a week to check on them. They got a truck in last night; no drives.

The guy I spoke to today told me:

Well Sir, it doesn't look like we will be getting any, anymore in our district. WD has discontinued that model line and we were selling them at that price just to get them out the door. We will not be getting any more of those.

He told me that my only recourse would be to either try to get them online (how the heck do I get the online system to honor my raincheck price?) or to drive up to the Austin stores and see if they have any.

Can someone advise me what to do w/this situation?

count your blessings you didn't actually lose anything? or call the austin store (or any other local stores) to see if they have the hdds in stock and have them transferred to your local bb.

I agree! I told PimpleFacePhoneJockey, in his own language (sk8ater-ese)

Dude. That is so...dude, like BS and stuffs! WD sells thousands of them per week. Why would they discontinue them?

He said:
Like Sir, dude man, that's what I was told.

How can I verify this? I could be an even bigger dick than I already am and go there and talk to the store manager...make them earn their money for a change. Thoughts?

By them online, then return them to a local store. Rebuy them at the local store using your Raincheck.

Sneaky. I like it. The thing is, will they go for them type of Shennanigans? I'd hate to get really shafted!

Whoa. WinnAr is minendo. :p

The only possible money you could lose here would be shipping. You buy the drives. Take them sealed to BB. Return them. Eat the $10 shipping. Buy them back on the spot.

Sounds like employees were holding them for themselves, friends, or family. We used to do that when I worked at BB. I remember when we had a sale for 6.4gb (largest available was 8.4gb) drives for $29.99. I bought 10 of them leaving only 5 for actual customers.

Sheesh. Then you sold them on ebay and made like 10 grand, eh?
Nope. Used them all in builds for customers.
