I couldn't do helpdesk. I work in a data center and we have a helpdesk operator in the control room who answers calls. Most of the calls that he gets are just sad. People have no idea how to go about gathering information so that they can make a useful call.

Sometimes they call the actual data center and I can't help but laugh at their requests.

Them - "Our printer is broken and the helpdesk isn't in!"
Me- "What's wrong with it?"
Them- "It just doesn't work"

So I just forward them to the helpdesk's answering machine.

That must be such a horrible job.

so i still have several things that he needs me to get done yet but he tells me i need to go with him to the new building today. its still under construction but the warehouse is pretty much done and they're going to start moving stuff in this weekend.

anyway, i get over there and he's like these 6 cables need rj45 ends put on. when you're done with that, change the ip addresses on the tablet pcs to this. so that took me maybe 30 minutes or less total, but i spent from 8:30 - 11:00 at the main office and then 11:00 to 5:30 at the new place. my normal schedule is 8:30-5:00.

thats all i did all day. had i stayed at the main office i would have had a full busy day.

to top it all off, at about 3:45 pm he says he needs to go back to the main office to do something and that he'll be back by 4:30. well, me and a few other people are still waiting for him at 5:30. he never showed up so we left. he probably went home.

now i bet he'll bitch at me for something tomorrow.

maybe if i got to do the job i was hired for it wouldn't be so bad, but this tech support BS is ridiculous. if something ever happens to my boss, the company is fvcked because i don't know even 1/4 the stuff he knows/has set up or has his hands in. i was hired to be his replacement if somethign happened to him. guess i should have mentioned that earlier because now maybe you can see where the all this frustration is coming from.
