I'd be down with declaring post-1945 semi-auto rifles with magazine sizes over 5 rounds Title II NFA weapons and regulating them accordingly. Anybody who doesn't want to deal with those restrictions would be able to turn them in for MSRP adjusted for inflation.

I'd be okay with some similar type of restriction (I own several NFA weapons and am familiar with the process). Few things that I'd want to see:

- NFA transfers would have to have a maximum time allotted after which the transfer was automatically approved. Why? Because NFA transfers can take ridiculously long. I'm not sure what the current wait time is. When I ordered one of my suppressors, it was over a year of wait. I did a form 1 SBR that was approved in under a month (both within the last 5 years). Silencershop.com reports that all methods of From 1/4 are currently sitting at 175+ days. Would be cool with a 30-45 day background check period.

- Unlike the ban on F/A weapons, new weapons could continue to be built and sold using new transfer process (much like buying a factory made SBR currently).

- Current weapons grandfathered / registered for free.

I'd actually rather just have them make a licencing system that gave people the credentials to own them with a complete background check, in lieu of having to do an individual NFA style background check every time. Maybe that process involves a mandatory training class and psyche evaluation?

The thing is where do you draw the line. In something like a mall, night club, concert, etc... a few 9mm glocks with a bunch of 30 round mags would be pretty much as effective as a single rifle, plus you have easy redundancy. It's not like the people there are wearing body armor, have a ton of cover, or are at significant distances.

Um...There's a long way between completely suppressing a name and not mentioning it to the point where I'm in danger of remembering it. No need to make a sad non-entity some sort of star.

Well, if you are going to go that (weird and troll-like) route, I would point out that Stalin had to work for decades to run up that bodycount. He didn't just buy a gun and go shoot people in the market. Hell, he participated in massacres of this magnitude when he was a lowly bankrobber raising funds for the party. As did a good few other (forgotten) bomb-throwers of the period. If you want to be remembered as a villain you have to put in the office hours. Become the leader of a major country, say.

Sorry, wasn't trying to troll. Good people going about their lives normally aren't something I have to be concerned about, so why would I know their names? But a rising wave of right wing nationalism is absolutely a major concern. Not shining a light on him and his inspiration is protecting him and the white nationalist movement IMO. People need to remember Patrick Crusius every time they see Trump's name on the ballot. They need to remember Nikolas Cruz. They need to remember this is Trump's legacy, mainstreaming white nationalism and think is it really worth it to keep enabling this fuckhead in DC at the ballot box.

I'm leery of automatic approvals but applications should be approved or denied in a timely manner with a pathway for appeal. 45 days seems like a decent figure.

- Unlike the ban on F/A weapons, new weapons could continue to be built and sold using new transfer process (much like buying a factory made SBR currently).

Not opposed to this.

- Current weapons grandfathered / registered for free.

Initial registration would be free for say a one year period and the buyback would be in effect for the same.

I'd actually rather just have them make a licencing system that gave people the credentials to own them with a complete background check, in lieu of having to do an individual NFA style background check every time. Maybe that process involves a mandatory training class and psyche evaluation?

Such a system seems possible but the background should be re-run on some regular basis to keep people current. Also transfers should be logged and owners randomly audited.

The thing is where do you draw the line. I'm not entirely opposed to including semi-auto handguns in this program.

No, they need to remember the lives that were destroyed and the suffering caused. Remembering the names of the generic inadaquates who pull the trigger is giving the terrorists what they want. Why do you think the Christchurch one streamed his actions?

Come to think of it there are multiple issues here - there are killings with direct political associations and there's the general topic of (mostly young men) getting attention by acting out, which applies across multiple political ideologies and none. In both respects I don't want to hear too much about the individual fool involved. Which is, as I said, not the same as completely suppressing that information.

You either say his name or you don't. If you say his name then you have to keep saying it because this is an important story that demands media coverage and not everyone watches the news at the same time. I think people should be able to put names and faces towards hate movements so they don't forget them.

Expect more of this in the future. The outlook looks grim. A sad day non the less. But it will get worse before it ever gets better.

Absolutely. It's called stochastic terrorism. There's a lot of it going around on the intarwebs.

"Stochastic terrorism" is a recent term describing public speech that can be expected to incite terrorism, without a direct organizational link between the inciter and the perpetrator. The term "stochastic" describes the random, probabilistic nature of its effect: whether or not an attack actually takes place, when, and by whom is not under the control of the stochastic terrorist, but their actions serve to increase the probability that it will.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lone_wolf_(terrorism)#Stochastic_terrorism

As the article mentions, ISIS uses the technique along with the White Fascist fringe. It comes with the territory of "everybody is entitled to free speech no matter how destructive or inflammatory".

Sounds like more reich wing terrorism, so clearly antifa is the culprit. I'm sure talk radio will be all over it furiously.

Mental illness? Well good thing dipshit Trump signed H.J Res 40 in 2017, removing a barrier for mentally ill people to acquire firearms.

So much shit to clean up in 2020.

Stupid fucking cvnt.
Between this dipshit and the dipshit on fox trying to blame video games (again). The talking points are clearly being distributed.
You’ll notice there is a distinct absence of the “gun free zone” argument this time around. Wonder why that is?
