i declined the offer

Sounds like a wise move.

Just out of curiosity, what was his reaction? Did you explain yourself?

For instance:

"I respectfully decline your offer because your personality sucks, you treated me like a toolbag, and my landlord doesn't accept peanuts in lieu of rent."

i told him that i wouldnt be able to live comfortably on that salary

he replies "ok, i understand."

i feel like he's trying to pressure me and lowball me on salary and benefits. this would be my first "real job" after college, so any advice is appreciated :p

i think the obvious answer is to finalize those important details before accepting the job offer, but what would ATOT do?

edit:
i said something to that effect (i need to know details regarding salary and benefits before accepting) and he replied "we can discuss those after you accept the offer, i want you to start tomorrow"

edit2:
i called back. i asked for benefits, compensation, salary, job details...

benefits = health + 401k

2 weeks vacation after 6 months

i asked about salary again... he said $30-35k :| thats way too low to live on, not to mention i will have college and graduate school loans to pay off! not to mention $10 in tolls and at least a 1 hour commute each way! so i declined the offer :)

CLIFFS: got a sh!tty offer, turned it down.

also, thanks for the good advice. i appreciate it :)

So being unemployed is worth more than a $30-35k/year job?

It's a low offer for Civ E, but way too low to LIVE on? You might not be able to keep the gold-plated Hummer, but if you can't live comfortably on $30k, you need to take a serious look at your budget.

Not worth a job if you don't even know clearly what you're getting into.

Good luck with future job offers, I'm waiting for some of them to call me to.

WTF kinda offer is $30-$35k? Companies should only put a range when advertising about the job.. When they give you an offer, it should be a a fixed amount. Either $30k or $35k. What if you accept and you get only $30k?

Hello, Mr. Smith, this is bonkers325 calling, in reference to the Ruler of the Universe position we have been discussing at XYZ Company. I wanted to get a few more details about the position so I can make a decision today as you requested. Do you have a minute to go over a couple things? Great. When we met earlier about the job, we never got a chance to discuss some of the details like salary and benefits. I'm sure you understand that I need to consider that as part of my decision, so could you give me some information about salary and benefits?

say it just like that lol :D

He's in Brooklyn. $30k pre-tax is what, $23k after tax? Between rent and utitilities, he's looking at around $12,000, more than half his salary.
