Geraldo said he's lost his 9th Blackberry. Bet the producers love him.
Haha.. That's funny.

He looks like he's about to get blown away.
How exactly are they going to get away? Hopefully they're monitoring the roads?

just saw a transformer go off in the distance out west. had a good flicker, street light went out for a little bit.

You WILL lose power, do have a generator??

Damnit, I wanna go through a natural disaster. I'll be the only one on the block with power and if I'm lucky, internet.

33W of solar panels, UPS and generator FTW.

I need more panels. 🙁

Isnt UT Medical Branch in a higher area, than say A&M Galveston. If UT Medical Branch is flooding, everything is flooding.

Curiosity got the better of me during Charley so I went out on the back porch, brilliant flashes all over as the power grid went down. Then a 90 plus MPH gust bent a pine tree over like a match stick and I scurried back inside. Sucks like hell being without power in the south in the summer months, impossible to sleep in a 86 degree house with 90 percent humidity..

Do you guys really think the power will be out for 2 weeks? It even says that on Centerpoint Energy's site.

Some people may be, but the majority of people will not have to wait that long. Power that will be out for 2 weeks or more will be due to downed trees and other kinds of damage.

Am I dreaming to think that by tomorrow night power will start coming back on for the less damaged areas?

a&m galveston is over on pelican island and is definitely low. UT may be a little higher but nothing on galveston is high. the san luis resort is probably the highest point, but then again it's literally built on an old coastal defense battery.

centerpoint says 725,000 customers without power, entergy says 62,000 of their customers without power.

forecasting up to 1 million without electricity. glad i have 4 UPSes and two batteries for my computer
Switch to a laptop if you can.

Also, throttle down your core clock. It helps power consumption a lot.

Put your router and cable modem on a UPS. You may get lucky and still be able to get the internet. I have lost power several times, but still been able to get online with this setup.

That is what I do. Use the UPS just for the router and modem and use the laptop to conserve power.

Looks like Galveston might get lucky and miss the highest storm surge, but as Dave said it looks to be a direct hit on the Bay.

It would technically be better to have the laptop always plugged into the UPS when its on. If you have to charge the laptop with the UPS, you introduce more efficiency loss.

Throttle the core down, turn the LCD brightness down and make sure not to use any CPU intense applications.

With my modified UPS, I can get up to 35hrs of runtime, powering my laptop, router and cable modem.

If I had sun, that could be doubled with input from the panels.
