You broke the ice with the original conversation. Bringing friends into the picture doens't help the situation; it almost makes it too casual; will likely end up with your buddies talking or her friends talking and you two not getting to know each other.

For a financially friendly date...try going for a coffee, a walk, out for ice cream or something along those lines. Movies suck as you don't get to talk to the person and the movie will occupy the conversation.

Your approach will work...it's just not ideal.

They must thing im such an arse though. I hardly ever smile back let alone keep a conversation going when they start one. I dont know I usually just dont care. I hate small talk. It's to much work. And I'm usually out doing something for a reason. Not out to flirt.
