My first, initial response without even looking at the thread or first post is:

Yes, you still have to ask her out. You do have to make it official

EDIT: Well, I wasn't too far off the mark. I'd say go to prom with her, and if you get the vibe from her then maybe tell her how you feel sometime during the night of prom. But still, don't ask her beforehand.

Exactly, didn't you learn anything from American Pie?

Don't officially 'ask her out' before the prom. Like you said, if she says no, it could make things weird. That doesn't mean you can't ask her on little dates and whatnot. And hey, maybe after hittin it after the prom, you can ask her out officially.

Mistake? How is that a mistake? You will find out what you want to know... good or bad. Most women make their minds up right away about which guys are friends, and which guys are potential lovers. If you never do anything, believe me you'll be a "friend."

Not entirely true.

I am in a relationship, and we fooled around alot, but the girl didn't want me as a boyfriend initially because she had just gotten out of a long, arduous, and painful relationship with an overly obsessive guy. We became friends, and she still instigated things from time to time... I was dating other girls at the time also. Eventually she felt comfortable knowing me for awhile to realize I wasn't going to be like her ex-boyfriend, and knew I would treat her well, and we got together.

Sometimes they are just "testing the water" so to speak, as keeping you a friend for awhile... you learn the truth about someone as their friend... moreso than you can learn on a couple of dates... keep that in mind. We are now together

However I do agree, if you don't make a move from time to time, then they will think you aren't interested. Out of sight, out of mind. Show some interest in her, and mention that other girls are interested in you also, and she'll get jealous and you'll be snatched up in no time...

Do whatever you truly want to do, don't tear yourself up over it. She already knows if she's interested, and if she isn't, do you really want to waste your time on her anyways?

Do you realize that between now and may 9 is almost 1 month? You should be seeing her every week until the prom.

Don't be an idiot. Out of sight = out of mind. go call her up tomorrow.

Yes, if by a month you mean 2 1/2 weeks. Anyway, I am seeing her plenty before prom, but in group situations, as I said earlier.

depending on how the group situation goes... assuming it's this weekend... ask to go on a one on one date the weekend before the prom. unless that's too weird and the prom will be a group thing. if you want romance, i'd try a 1-1 date. otherwise it may be just 'friends.'

Don't mock me, boy. May 9 is exactly 3 weeks from today (I'm an hour into Friday on the east coast). I replied yesterday 26 minutes into the day. That makes my reply 3 weeks and 1 day before prom. The useage of almost 1 month is justified.

I have no clue how you got 2.5 weeks.

For what it's worth (no one cares, but whatever, I'm excited), she called me tonight and invited me over. I did, we started watching a movie and...er....well, I guess I don't wonder where I stand anymore. ;)

Whatever you do, do NOT be around her when that time of the month comes. You will regret it.

Just advice from a smart man. Even the most loveable, kindest women turn into raging bitches around that time of the month.
