My fiancee has HSV-1...she got it from her mom...and I can guarantee that her mom did not get it from being sexually promiscuous.

Either way, she only has a breakout at most once a year...and she is very good about being careful when she does. We don't kiss and we don't share food/silverware/glasses during that time period. I have not gotten it yet. Not really an issue.

I have it, not sure if i recently caught it from my wife or not as she has grown up with it, but i've had two cold sores in the last probably 3 years. None before that. They suck, but certainly nothing to break up over. I think somewhere around 75% of people have it, if not more.

not everyone, but most.
i think 90% have hsv, and over 80% of people who have had 4 or more partners have HPV.

A person usually has only one episode of chickenpox, but VZV can lie dormant within the body and cause a different type of skin eruption later in life called shingles (or herpes zoster). Getting the chickenpox vaccine significantly lowers your child's chances of getting chickenpox, but he or she may still develop shingles later.

What do you think causes cold sores? Cold sores = HSV-1

The figure I've heard cited most often is that 75% of the US population has some form of herpes, with--I believe--HSV1 being the most common.

That's HPV. And everyone has HPV.

Actually those stats are over rated as they usually state how many people have been exposed to the HSV-1, not have it.

HSV-1 is so common in the United States that by late adulthood, 60 to 80 percent of the population has been exposed, [2] although only 15 to 20 percent of these people have had symptoms of infection.

Oh and also...

The common myth is that HSV-1 causes a mild infection that is occasionally bothersome, but never dangerous. The reality? HSV-1 is usually mild, especially when it infects the lips, face, or genitals. However, in some cases type 1 can recur spontaneously in the eye, causing ocular herpes, a potentially serious infection which can lead to blindness. In very rare cases HSV- 1 can spread spontaneously to the brain, causing herpes encephalitis, a dangerous infection that can lead to death. HSV-1 is also the usual cause of herpes whitlow, an infection on the finger, and "wrestler's herpes," (herpes gladiatorum) a herpes infection on the chest or face.
