Because you think "planned home invasions"/"semi-organized crime targeting break-ins" with people wearing body armor are even more dangerous than the cops or ICE.
No I said the opposite. Maybe you misunderstood. Law enforcement would be much more dangerous obviously. Anyway neither are what you want to be fair.

Switching from home defense to target sport shooting. I joined a club this past year and have been learning quite a bit. This club has a lot of active members and they like to do events.

One of the events is called speed steel. Basically, a row of steel plates for each competitor. This is mainly .22, but theyre testing a few centerfire sessions too.

Im proud to say ive been pulled into it and its a lot of fun, people st the club are very friendly and want you to test out different models. Most people are using a Ruger mark IV, and after testing the lite, a tactical, and a hunter (all of these fully fitted out for comp), i went with a Mark IV hunter.

Theres a couple thst have been sport shooting for a long time, and the husband helps newbies out by performing upgrades for free, labor only im paying for parts. I tested his Mark IV Hunter on Thursday at the weekly event, and it was so smooth. The weight of it as well as a compensator vented top kept recoil to almost nothing. Being able to keep the red dot trained on the line of steel plates made a big difference

After the Mark IV is upgraded, ill post a pic. Im pretty excited. Overall cost for the mark IV plus upgrades will land around $1600. According to these peeps, a centerfire target pistol that they would use starts around $4K, but i haven’t been able to discuss models and upgrades yet, thats a bit outta my price range and i did not plan for it either lol

The event for .22 is indoor, steel plates at 35 ft. Theres an outdoor pistol range with a .22 area that ive visited twice this week with Sig P322 iron sights, steel plates at 50 ft., so been learning on that and its coming along. P322 is a great starter pistol

Was cruising around the PSA site and saw a 5.7 Rock with ported slide and gold barrel. I liked it so I bought it. When it arrived it felt familiar. Checked the safe. Oops, I have an all black imported one. Oh, well. But I needed more mags. Went to site and ordered 3. They arrived. They fit but too short. They are 21 rounds. The 2 guns I need use 23 round mags. Check the site. Seems they offer a 5.7 Rock Compact. So, what to do? 3 mags I can’t use oorrrrr. Yep, bought a Compact in Sniper Green. Arrives at my FFL tomorrow.

Now have 6 5.7. 3 PSA, Ruger, S&W and the OG FN. And I have a 5.7 CMMG upper for an AR-15 lower. And only 1 silencer that is 5.7 rated. A 2nd one is in process.

Californian here, I'm sure it's been discussed but not going to dig through 500+ pages:

Any recommendations for a good SHTF rifle? I figure just about any Cali legal AR-15 chambered for 5.56 with a pic rail aught to do it.

Snag a pistol grip mod to get rid of that absurd Cali legal handle as well as some standard magazines and I should be good to go (no modding unless I leave the state or SHTF in which case having non-compliant mods installed would be the least of my concerns).

Juggernaut Tactical and LWRC International both make great ARs. I have both and pretty happy with them. Hoping the assault weapons ban gets overturned and we can remove these stupid mag lock devices which just make the rifle more complicated and less safe IMO.

Or you could get one of these. A Beretta 1301 Mod.2. It's my favorite shotgun for home defense or SHTF. Although, it is sitting in my gun safe at the moment.

Most shotguns designed for a 12ga load will hold 8rd or so, you can get some of the dual chamber ones like the Keltec that double that. In most SHTF scenario, just having a firearm and racking it will be enough. People talk a lot but the ones actually able to see things through and have a modicum of training with their firearms would be well ahead of everyone else.

As far as range, most engagements are probably within 25 yards. A 12 gauge loaded with buckshot would do perfectly fine. People don't need ARs designed to go to 400yd unless you're doing actual warfighting.

My point is that a fully legal shotgun is going to do way better than a 10 rd bullet button fixed mag no pistol grip AR, and unless you're willing to risk jail by having the ability to modify your rifle to make it non Cali compliant, you're probably better off with the shotgun.

Plus its easier to shoot. Most people talking about "SHTF" will take a gun out once a year to plink at a target. You're more of a liability to yourself having an AR and not regularly shooting it.

ARs are no more a liability than any other gun and I don't consider guns a liability at all anyway. I have a few of them and they are great guns. Accurate, fun to shoot and endlessly customizable.

My main complaint with ARs is actually that they are boring, for me, to shoot. Which probably explains why I only have one.

I picked up a Springfield Prodigy 5" Comp this weekend, and mounted a Holosun 507 Comp RDS on it. I have to say the compensation function actually seems to help. I ran some 124gr Nato loads through it and those are a bit spicier than normal 124gr and the muzzle flip seemed tamed. I switched over to the Staccato P for comparison and was surprised. The Staccato did have a can on the end, which also helps.

I ordered a new guide rod for the Prodigy, and grip safety delete replacements for both guns. I also purchased and spent some time playing with a recurve bow. It came with 6 arrows, 2 are now somewhere up in the field behind the target, I still have 4. It's harder to maintain consistency shot for shot when the muscle motions are not yet learned from practice.

So I had not realized that the Mosin market had gotten crazy over the last few years. I bought a hex receiver 91/30 back in 2010 time frame for $100 - still have the receipt for it. Turned it around this week for $350 and probably could have gotten more for it if I was willing to wait. I hadn't shot it in probably 10 years and it was never going to be one that came out for a range day.

Now I can put the money into more ammo for the guns I actually want to shoot!

Yeah lot of mil-surp has sky rocketed which I guess makes sense cause there was only so much made, but the price of Mosins is quite wild.

I have a 91/30 I'd love to get rid of as I bought it very early in my gun obsession and haven't shot it for about a decade and a half. It's fine but just don't want it, though I'm not sure where to sell it.

Honestly I think Mosins are pretty junk, there's way better bolt actions out there. I have an M48 (Yugo version of K98k basically) and that's way fricking better.

Edit: supposed to be quote reply to deadly's post above but apparently Quote no longer works in Tapatalk

Not sure where you live but there are gun classifieds near everywhere. I posted mine locally and had it sold within 2-3 days.
