I want a light for my G19, but I don't want to dick around with removing it every time I feel like carrying it...

Those 3 are worthy contenders. Have you shot any of them?

The P30 is a great gun. I know many a previous glock carrier who switched to the P30 as their primary CCW. I regularly CC a USP Compact in .357 sig and love it. Not to mention that you can get a USP in around 10 different trigger\action\safety variants and every popular caliber. I've fired over 5,000 rounds out of mine and never had a single failure. Shot IPSC and 3 gun competitions with it, and shot my CCW & PD quals with it. Mags are expensive.

Ok, let me try to make this as simple as I can...

Home defense = want light!
Concealed carry = no want light! :ninja:

my hi-light is not bad for flashlight only. it is a combo flashlight/laser. the laser is pretty worthless IMO - i took it to a range to play with it and it didn't work very well since the light/laser is held on by a very simple spring assembly. it ends up drooping a bit, and even at 10yds, it makes a massive difference.

How often are you guys shooting range ammo vs. your carry rounds?

No set time. But do be careful about your carry ammo. Unloading and reloading your gun can eventually cause bullet setback which could lead to a kaboom. So if you unload your carry gun often, don't keep chambering the same round. Cycle through them, and watch for bullet setback.

If you can't take the 10 seconds to take the life on and off, just buy another gun. My carry gun & nightstand guns aren't the same guns.

You are ruining my excuse to buy a new gun :colbert:

Oh, now I would never do that! I'm all for adding to the collection. With that being the case, don't get a Glock 17. It's to similar to what you have. Already got a Sig so lets keep going. I wouldn't touch an M&P unless you are willing to do trigger work to it. FNS 9 is a good affordable option, has the striker trigger system you seem more comfortable with. H&K P30 or P2000 are also interesting options, you'd probably like the LEM trigger. Albeit those are a bit more spendy. I'm a huge fan of collections, just have some variety.

Soooo...buying my 10th 1911 isn't a good idea?

That's exactly my problem. I want to branch out but I'm a bit spoiled. Triggers and safeties are my main things. I want a 3-5 pound striker fired/DAO and no external safeties.

BHPs, do they even make these anymore in quantities? They're a bit hard to acquire and no, they don't have any railed versions.

Yeah, common competition mods for 1911s are to pin the safety so that's easy to deal with.

However, if I'm going to use something for home defense, I'd rather it be a relatively inexpensive pistol (because you'll have to hand it over in the resulting case) that I didn't have to modify to get it to work outside of its intended design parameters (this never looks good to a jury).

USP 40 was my first and still favorite handgun.

Rented at a range one day, just point and click where my index finger naturally pointed and fit like a glove. Had to have one.
