Depends on the gun, really. My carry 1911 likely has recoil similar to a Glock 22, and that's because my 1911 is cut down in both the barrel length and the grip length, and has an aluminum frame and a steel slide (whereas the typical GI spec 1911 is all steel.) A G30 or G36 (the compact and sub compact .45 models from Glock) likely have more recoil than a Glock 22 as well.
If you were to make all things equal in terms of weight, size and such, the base SAAMI 40 load would have a sharper recoil than the 45 would. I think the 45s out there generally have as much recoil, it's just slower and easier to the gun on target. Throw in +p loads and 40 gets to be a little over the top.
If you're not going to be helpful or are going to just swear at him, maybe you should not post.
