Check out a Bersa...technically it does have an external safety (which doubles as the decocker) but nothing says you have to engage it😉 They have a .380 single stack that is very thin, light, well built and the trigger is great in DA/SA..did I mention it's cheap😉 I carry the .45 but it's a double stack 7rnd mag and a bit bulky in that regard, also not light:\ otherwise I've never had a single issue with any ammo and the trigger is damn nice...I've had one occasion to fire the little .380 and it matched my experience with my .45 and the person who owned it felt the same

Uhhh...anything specific? It was one session with the Thunder .380 single stack version, they also have a double stack that holds 15 single is 7, put 4 mags through it myself (Winchester white box) after the owner had put about 50 through it himself. Not a single hiccup and the accuracy was good enough for what it's designed for, I wasn't shooting groups but I never missed the torso of a B27 at 15yds😉 It felt almost exactly like my Bersa .45 only smaller and lighter, though I will admit this isn't a polymer frame gun, it's all steel so I guess you really can't call it "light" but they run about $350 so they are very cheap😀

If you get to a second mag you got serious issues😉 And how many people carry spare mags anyway? If it lasts that long odds are you should have found cover and would have those few extra moments to do it "properly"...but to be honest have hated every Kahr I've fired anyway

Personally I would prefer a bang if it comes to it too...that said I always keep a round in the chamber so the first time is pretty much guaranteed😉 after that I inspect my magazines pretty regularly and outside of something extreme I'm certain the one i'm carrying will function when needed, personally I wouldn't mind having a spare mag but I don't want to carry it😀

Anyone pocket carry the M&P Shield or the XDs 9mm? Thinking about selling my Kahr PM9 and switching to one of those. Love how small the Kahr is, but there are some issues that make it less than ideal for carry.

I can't speak to the XDs, but I carry a Shield 9mm and I love it. Using the 7 rd mag (as it comes with one 7 rd mag and one 8 rd mag) makes it more convenient for a pocket carry. I rarely pocket carry, I prefer holstering a weapon.

I know I prefer the the shield to the smaller glocks, hands down.

People are talking about tiny pistols. Glocks are fairly big/thick. Even the G26.

Edit I carry a G19 and it's great. Just not in the category being discussed here.

Alkemyst, the p-01 is great. It's quite a bit bigger and heavier than some of these other guns being discussed, though. The beretta 92 is huge.

The G26 is as small is it gets for Glocks. This is it compared to the Kahr they've been talking about:

Alkemyst, the p-01 is great. It's quite a bit bigger and heavier than some of these other guns being discussed, though. The beretta 92 is huge.

The Beretta is a full-sized. I can shoot my P-01 as accurately as a full-sized gun.

I am a bigger guy so going ultra-compact is not needed for me.

I had debated a 1911, but glad I chose the P-01 as a daily carry.

I love my p238, but am having a frustrating problem. It has a barely stripped out grip screw thread. I'm careful, I know it's steel to aluminum, I think there was actually a piece of sand that got wedged in and it backed the Al threads out of the frame when I removed it.

So that being said, I called sig and there is almost no way to fix it short of a $550 replacement frame.

I've had it for quite a few years and have put many defense rounds through it with not much issue. It's seen a lot of holster wear, been dunked in creeks, fully cleaned who knows how many times.. But I'm disappointed that there isn't a bushing in there to prevent this.

and it's enough to where the screw won't fall out, but it's too temporary of a fix.

Sig said I can send it back but it usually requires a frame replacement. A gunsmith told me that if I can get a tap it's technically possible to hammer out the aluminum to get enough material to tap. It's apparently some extremely odd size threads where most people don't even have a tap, so to go this route I will probably need new grip screws... Which seems to defeats the purpose of hammering the frame.

I'm wondering if there's some way to weld it and retap?

Yeah the more I think about it, some of these ultra compacts seem too small (and weren't comfortable when I held them). I'm a pretty big dude too and could handle the extra few ounces. Plus the p-01 is soooo comfy and I like metal. I have heard it is as accurate as any full size firearm too.

A 1911 would be awful to carry IMO.

I used to carry IWB with my XD, nowadays I prefer pocket holsters and there are very few quality guns in pocket size.

If you plan to carry I would just plan on ultimately getting two guns. A larger gun with higher capacity (but of course one you can still carry comfortably) - for me the Glock 19. Make the second gun a small one that you can drop into a pocket when you're in a hurry or have an outfit that doesn't conceal IWB very well - for me, the LCP.

Well really you only need about 1" of barrel to stabilize a bullet for shooting at moderate (pistol) ranges. The biggest advantage of a longer barrel is a larger sight radius so you can aim more accurately.

Smaller guns for me arent as fun to shoot. My wrists wear out ALOT faster than with a full size. In fact ill usually just put 50 rounds through the xds and be done with it then go toss out 100-200 through the fnp45 or my sig with no issues. The biggest thing with a small gun is it doesnt need ot be fun, it simply needs to function 100% when i truly need it. I have my fun guns and if i have an issue with them i shrug and put them bag in my bag and deal with it later. If my sig or xds have a problem (which they havent had anything major) i deal with it right then and there and then fire more rounds to make sure its good to go.

I MUCH prefer hammer-fired over striker-fired. Being able to put a finger on the hammer to ensure that nothing is caught in the trigger guard while holstering is a definite plus. Yes, I know, that SHOULDN'T happen, but I've heard of too many cases of negligent discharges from "professionals" because their shirt got caught while holstering, or something similar.

You should be paying ALOT of attention when reholstering. Any sort of accident is on the operator not the firearm

I have a friend that IWB's a full size 1911 daily, hes gotten good enough at it that I can never tell when hes carrying without patting him down. hes not a fatass either

With the right gear you basically forget it is there. I use a pure kustom holster with a shark skin belt from the belt man. Neither are cheap. My belt was around $150 and the holster $200. It is all about having the right belt to support it and finding the right holster and carry position.

A 1911 has a thin profile compared to some other autos which makes it actually more comfortable.

I love shooting my Glock 26. It feels like a little pop gun after shooting my HK USP Tactical .45. 🙂 Definitely way more comfortable (G26) to shoot than I thought it would be. I'd say my Sig P229 (9mm) is my most comfortable weapon to shoot though. Not saying the others are uncomfortable, it's just that the Sig edges them out. I actually love shooting all of them and wouldn't trade any of them for anything out there. I'd definitely add to my collection, but I won't give any of mine up.

Anyway, I'd feel comfortable CC'ing either my G26 or P229.
