YAGT: OMG I love guns

Theres been rumors of legislation on ammo as well as all the other gun ban crap. Everything from stopping online sales, to limiting how much you can buy, to well who else knows what they will think of. So thats part of why theres a run on it. Plus once a few people start panic buying it just spreads as the person who wasnt panic buying starts seeing 9/40/45 disappearing so they buy it since its low on stock....and well you get the idea

On NPR they were discussing some of those possible bans including limits on ammo sales per person because of how much of an "arsenal" the Aurora shooter had amassed with his 6000 rounds. And the lady interviewing the current leader of the NRA asked, "Wouldn't that have helped stopped him if he couldn't get so much ammo?" as well as things like 30 round mags and what not. She was talking about how part of what legislation they are going to impose would be a proper license to pretty much buy anything firearm related.

So with news like that, it explains the current buying frenzy pretty well.

Very nice!

For now I demand pocket carry, but if I ever decided to IWB I'd have an XDS.

Love the .45 ACP. Wish Marlin was still making the Camp Carbine, right now if you want a .45 ACP carbine it's a 2nd-hand Marlin or a Hi-point (whose ergonomics my US-size small hands despise).

Well you COULD pocket carry. But it would print a bit haha. Least when i got it i tried it out and the xds fit in my front pocket fine and i could pull it out easy enough. But i do agree its a bit big to do that every day or anything 🙂 I prefer IWB or since its new im using the paddle holster that comes with the xds. Mostly since its winter and my jacket still covers it. Though i do have a IWB on order. Its just a bit annoying since I am left handed and a few holster markers havent switched ot making xds left handed holsters yet 🙂

If you love the 45acp look at the 460 rowland 🙂 Thats quite an interesting round. Was talking to my reloading guru who uses it in his 1911's and its a interesting round for sure. Same balistics (more or less) as a 44mag but less recoil and shoots out of a 1911 (just requires a barrel change pretty much). Course if you dont reload forget it. Dont think ive ever seen factory 460 rowland.

And thats exactly why everything AR/Hi-cap/Ammo wise is selling like crazy. You have to many uneducated media/politician people saying things like that. They dont understand at all that buying in bulk saves money, im cheap i like saving money. Having 6k in rounds is a lot if you only own 1 or maybe 2 guns. But when you own say 7 or 8 different calibers that really isnt much at all. Or if you are shooting IDPA competitions, many of those guys shoot 500+ a week. Heck even a fun steel match happening today near me they say to bring at least 250 rounds just for the competition. But thats what groups like the NRA are for...to inform these people. Which by the way if anyone isnt a NRA member you can currently join for like 20 bucks a month or get a lifetime membership for 300 bucks if you have a lifetime member sponsor you.

and if any WA people need ammo....Sportco in Fife had 40/10mm/45acp in stock yesterday evening. 45acp looked down to 2k or so left but plenty of 10mm and 40 left. And 357sig 🙂 Not the best prices there on ammo (never has been to be fair to them, even pre election) but hey if you need it its there.

Now if i could only find a damn ruger 10/22 that isnt one of the fancy models. I just want the dang receiver more or less >.<

Sorry but the run on pistol cal ammo and shotguns is just plain ignorance.

Went to the range yesterday and just bought some re-loads for the revolvers, was shooting off the woman's new 9mm, a .357 single action (hand cannon!), .22LR single action, and some .40 through a XD.

Range was completely out of new ammo, still had some .357 and 7.62 re-loads, which were quickly being bought up so that people could keep the good stuff in their truck.

What did you think of the .40 xd? What size barrel? I am looking at one for a CCW and everybody in my area has a hard on for Glock..

both of the semi autos in the pic are xds. The 9 and the .40. both with the 5 inch tactical barrels. Where I live it is impossible to get your CCW so there is no point in a shorter barrel in my opinion.

I shot the Glock 40 and the XD 40 back to back and the XD for me just felt a lot better it is obviously personal preference but I am really impressed with the whole xD lineup. Possibly looking at the 45 as well.

honestly as anyone would tell you on any gun forum go shoot them back to back for yourself. Don't listen to others.

I have held them in the store. Not many places around here will let you shoot (about a 2 hour drive for me). I like the feel of the xd a lot more than the Glock. The other option is the Shield. But the waiting list is quite long.
Just saw you were in Cali. CCW here is a joke. 8 hour class (3 on the range), pay your fee at the county clerk, license shows up.

Several Democrats and anti-Second Ammendment organizations have proposed taxing ammo. Some have compared taxing ammo to taxing cigarettes. Have you seen how much a pack of cigarettes cost nowadays?

And now I got the fiancee a CCW as well to finally round everything out. I got her the same thing as I have which is a sig p238. Except she gets the pink lady version with the stainless slide. And you know what, I personally wouldn't have a problem at all carrying that thing. Since I got done running around playing paintball all day, I haven't bothered to take a pic of it so I googled an image of it for you guys. It is exactly like that one with the swirls in the stainless slide.

As for my new shotty I mentioned earlier, this is the one I got. Again a stock image for now.

I had a very pleasant surprise last night when I got around to looking up the headstamps of the 7.62 I picked up.

The seller said I was purchasing Czech, Pakistani and Chilean surplus.

Czech was correct.

Pakistani was actually Australian.

Chilean was actually...Port and Radway Green 😱 Jackpot.

The ammo can pic I posted in this thread is the Port. I haven't come across Port that shiny in a long time.

Several politicians have also proposed mandatory buy-backs and gun-meltings. Fortunately the reality of our country is that guns are not strictly a (D) (R) issue.

There are rural (D) senators and a (R) controlled house that also has rural (D) members that will stop 99% of the BS Fienstein/Kucinich type legistlation.

I bet if a tax were to even pass, it would not exceed the premium that some people are paying for common pistol ammunition.

Again, for those of you...uh..."storing" rifle rounds.....carry-on. I would be too. If I owned one, of course.

Honestly, even if such taxes did pass I don't really see the point in stockpiling ammo. I hope to get into competitive shooting one day (just as a hobby), which means I'll be shooting thousands of rounds per year. For a lifetime supply I'd need hundreds of thousands, which I just don't have the money for.

If you don't have the money for it, of course there isn't a point.

But if you do have the money for it, the point is quite simple: ammo can stay usable for many decades, and ammo prices have consistently gone up year after year.

One example is .308/7.62x51. A decade ago you could buy 1000 rounds of quality military surplus ammo for $150/case. It was plentiful, and brokers would sell you as much as you wanted to buy. Two months ago, it was $600/case, and that's if you could find someone actually selling it. Winchester White Box 9mm at Walmart was $6 per 50 round box a decade ago; it's about $14/box now.

So if you can stockpile multiple years worth of ammunition, go for it. I bought my AK just a few months ago and I've ordered about 15 cases (1000 rounds per case) of ammo for it already. My average price per case was about $225, and last I checked they are selling for $300-$350/case after Sandy Hook.

Only reason i keep a decent supply of factory on hand, even though i dont plan to shoot it (its more for friends/family and comparing factory to reloads) is the fact ammo is getting more and more expensive. Even before all the panic buying. What you could buy 3-4 years ago was cheaper than what you could get it for in August of 2012. Same if you find a good deal why not pick it up even if you already have some. Im not going to be stuck paying the high premiums cause theres no good deals around! And stockpiling gets you through events like these where even if theres not taxes, ect its still going to be a year before ammo is back to normal.

Of course i dont go out and buy tons and tons just because its on sale. Do keep a budget and most of it goes towards reloading anyways, not factory ammo.

Picked up my second (and last if I want to stay married) rifle today. Really wanted a Sig 556 but decided to get the 522 that I have been lusting after for so long. Yes, I know it's a .22 but it's a freaking fun .22 and it's "scary" enough looking with many "scary" features on it that if legislation passes it will be one of those to go.

Unfortunately I marred the gas block trying to install the blasted iron sites. After giving up I realized I was going to be getting some sort of optics for it anyway so the entire process was a waste of time. Ugh, I hate scratching new firearms before I even get to use them!

As for ammo... really kinda annoying out there. I have 610 rounds of steel case for my AK with another 2k on order. 1.5k each for the .17 hmr and .22 and less than 500 rounds total between my .45 and .380... so annoying.

Honestly though while I do see some sort of legislation coming on the firearms themselves (I expect some sort of AWB renewal, mandatory back ground checks, and no more mags over 10 rounds) I can't see limits on ammo passing. I expect that within the next 3-6 months ammo will start to come back down in price and appear in stock, much like it did after Obama was elected. Heck, if they ban certain rifles then ammo might even be more readily available as people new to the sport will have a hard time getting their hands on the firearms to shoot 😉

The oldest ammo I ever shot was some Turkish 8mm ammo from the 20's or 30's. Not particularly accurate, but it still worked.

Also shot some WW2 surplus .45 ammo. A bit dirtier than the new stuff, but it all worked.

Which model did you get? I do love my Sig 522 and havent had any problems with it. Fun and accurate too. Mines just the Classic so it came with iron sights installed, though i do have a cheap 100 dollar ACOG knockoff i use from time to time too

The Tacticool .22 rifles are awesome. I have just as much fun with my M&P 15-22 as someone with an AR-15.

Sucks that .22 ammo is really hard to find right now, I've got maybe 400 rounds left.

Never was a huge 22 fan. I put a cheap scope on my savage Mk 2 to help teach new shooters, it can provide satisfaction through results. But for me, its meh.

I got the Commando version

http://www.sigsauer.com/CatalogProductDetails/sig522-commando.aspx

Really wanted one the quad rail front end but none of the local shops I checked had that in so I went for this. This has been on my list for some time but I kept delaying, now I figured I might as well, I don't want to not be able to get one. .22 is just so much fun to shoot and while I wanted it's big brother (Sig 556 302 version) this will do for now. If I can still buy the 556 in a year or so then great, if not, oh well.

I'll probably get a cheap sub $50 red dot on amazon for the time being until my wife calms down and will let me near the credit cards again. That should do just fine for plinking, it's not as though the recoil will throw of the site 😀

Oddly enough of the 1.5k .22 rounds I have left almost all are CCI mini mags, the exact kind of ammo I was trying to get away from using by buying a gun that can cycle the cheap stuff. For the moment though I guess thats what I'll be shooting...

Been looking at this tristar tec 12 I got and from everything I can tell it is damn near identical to a benelli m3. I can not tell any major differences between them except the rail on top and the Tec 12 has a slightly worse stock/grip combo.

Nice thats more or less the same as i have. But mine has the front sight and a removable rear sight. I wanted a Sig 556 for a long time and started with the 522. Might get a 556 if the AWB doesnt go through otherwise I am not to worried about it.

I shot like two hundred rounds of mini mags through mine to sort of "break it in" a bit before i switched to Federal Champion bulk 22lr. Havent has a problem since! Only issues i had was a magazine the plastic feed lip broke and well lets just say i ended up with tons of stovepipes and other issues (magazine was kaput) and other than that its been ammo related with FTF which happens maybe 2-3 times in a box of 525.

Good to know, I plan to break mine in as well before switching to the bulk crap. Too bad finding any new mags for the 522 is impossible right now, unless you want the 10 rounders. Ugh, I really hope I can grab some before any ban comes in, I do not want to be stuck with only one higher capacity mag.

As for the sights I really wish they had preinstalled them. The rear site is easy enough to put on with just the 2 screws through the rail. The front... ugh, not worth it. Time for that cheap red dot to start...

Primary Arms has some of their branded red dots in stock right now, not the micro dot but the aimpoint m4 styled ones. Very very nice but inexpensive red dots IMO.

If you want a micro dot style, I have an Aimpoint micro T-1 new in box I will give you a deal on :awe:

I love my tacticool 15-22

IMG_20130110_180857.JPG

The magazine is ugly, but there's an enthusiast out there working on an aftermarket hi-cap magazine that looks similar to a PMAG. Not much specifics given yet, other than it'll cost less than $35 and hold more than 25 rounds.

They had the 15-22 for $150 less than I paid for my 522 but I had to get the sig. I like the looks too much and I've heard better things about it's build quality though thats a pretty small concern, I don't plan on going into battle and if I did, a .22 would not be my primary weapon 😉
