YAGT: OMG I love guns

Well to be fair, she was upset over the CHL part, rather than the guns themselves. We owned guns when I was growing up (just a shotgun), and she'd known before then that I owned pistols and so on. Her first reaction to the CHL is that I wanted it to go out and shoot people. 😵 Ahhhh, mothers.

Remember, emotions of thinking people are going to go out on a killing spree because they have a gun are typically self expressions of what that person would do.

Why just the Colt? There are many makers of 1911's that offer equal or better quality than the Colts. Colt is living off of it's name at this point.

Springfield, Remington, STI, Sig, Kimber, Rock Island, Smith and Wesson all make 1911's that are just as reliable as a standard Colt. Rock Island is really the only one in that group that makes a very affordable 1911. Though the finish on them is not as good as the rest of them, they are highly regaurded as good entry/begineer 1911's. You can get decked out Tactical 1911 (ie extended ambi safety, beavertail grip safety, novak style sites) in 9mm or .45 for under $500. I think you can even get the full rail version for right at $500. There are a few lemons that make it out, but RIA will make it right, and quickly.

This. Colt just makes a basic 1911. Personally, a series 70 based 1911 is preferable, and beyond that it's what you want. I got a Dan Wesson because it's fit well, no MIM parts and such. Worth the money any day.

On a different note, just started refinishing my M1 Garand stock. Yay!

Is paying for guns with CC generally not accepted? I keep seeing % fees for using non-cash payments. Weird.

No clue but when i bought mine there were no fees for using credit card (wanted the points). Probably just depends on the place i suppose

Depends on the place. Most places just want cash up front, either because of transaction fees, or you being able to dispute transactions, I guess.

buying from a small shop? they don't like credit cards because they get charged a fee every time they use the credit card machine/system. they probably don't sell enough to warrant waiving the fee and they pass that fee on to you. it's usually like 3%.

if this is a chain place like Gander or Cabela's then thats total BS to charge that.

I was just checking out a website called gunbroker.com (seems like eBay for guns). Haven't really looked at other places yet. Some retailers on gunbroker.com even allow you to pay in installments, lol.

It's reputable. Purchased my Springfield 1911 off there. Of course it depends on the dealer, but they list on the page if the seller is an FFL or private individual. They also have a "going, going, gone" system where the auction doesn't end until the top bid has been unchallenged for 15 minutes, so no sniping. Also if the item has a reserve, if you meet/exceed the reserve and win the auction, the seller is legally obligated to sell you the item.

I wouldn't say less accuracy. When hickock45 can hit that steel gong at 80 yards with a 2.7" barrel Sig P238 I'd say short barrels are plenty accurate.

The issue with shorter barrels is shorter sight radius. So while the gun may mechanically be very accurate, a significant amount of sight precision is lost, making aiming harder.

Yea I just assume this is what people think when shorter barrel = less accuracy is said. The shorter the barrel the more frustrating it is to shoot precise. I don't think anyone really has superskills with a short barrel, I'd take as long of a barrel as I can get anyday. Hickok must have just done some yoga to not get frustrated eh=p

Obama controls the price of ammunition now too? :whiste:

Funny how that works. Obama has passed no legislation on gun control yet he somehow increased the price of ammo.

I never said Obama raised the prices or controlled them. I was using that as a time frame. Everyone was afraid that when Obama came into office, he would be banning all kinds of gun stuff, so people raised prices on everything to make more money on the demand.

fucking idiots on this forum who like to put words into people's mouths and/or have no reading comprehension at all and/or just like to troll.

Jules is the firearms thread troll around here. He likes to point out how he lived in LA during the Rodney King Riots (you know, where 53 people died and 2000+ where injured) and didn't need to use his guns. Somehow he thinks that experience implies the rest of us are paranoid.

True story.

It's always true that ammo prices increase on election years, and are on average higher during the time of democratic presidency. That's just the market balance though... lots of people are preparing for some sort of shit storm that never comes or build up stock in case this particular president decides to attack guns. Demand rises, so does price. Not much of a mystery that it's tied to the timing of presidents.

My bad. I'll withdraw the comment.

Obama is the best gun salesman in America.

I've owned the Ruger 10/22 since the mid 1990s but just started customizing it recently. I'm pretty much done though. Just enjoying plinking with it with my son now.

My son shooting the 10/22. 😀 That's my friend and his son in the background. He also owns a Ducati. 😉

give him a break man, he puts on full body armor to ride his Ducati to 7-11 on the corner.

He always risks life and limb rather than hiding in a dark corner.

Went to the gun show. Brother in law bought a golden boy .22 for $450 including tax. They added 30 minutes free range time too.

I found like...4-5 CZ 75Bs and 1 CZ 75BD. Didn't find any stainless though. Holy smokes there are a LOT of smith & Wesson and sig pistols.

Smith & Wesson and Sig are two of the largest and oldest firearm manufacturers in the world. You were expecting different? 🙂

damn, Golden Boys went up in price since I bought one.

I think I got mine for $340 several years ago, and that was with tax.

wonder if it has something to do with the move to NJ?

Well we are talking a gun show. Everything except ammo is marked up. Plus it's an election year and demand is through the roof.
