YAGT: OMG I love guns

Holy crap! I just got a Sig M400. I think it was $1100 AND in order to buy it for that price, you also had to buy a $1100 optic that was bundled with it.

Yah, sportsmanoutdoors had the M400 for sale yesterday for $1099. The MSRP on those is $1049 according to sig's website, but they sold out immediately of the 50 or so they got in stock. Even Gander Mountain which sells these in various stores has the price at $1099. Again over MSRP.

Reading some of the gun forums it's amazing the amount of bitching people are doing about the current prices of guns. I understand and sympathize to a point, but the current market is that a $700 on sale gun from 4 months ago, is going to be close to, at, or slightly above MSRP from stores now. Assuming you can find it in stock. And if you must have it now, be prepared to pay a bit of a premium from a private party. Those charging double or triple MSRP is stupid, but anyone charging $1600 or less for that M400 as a private party transaction I would consider a fair price. $1100 + shipping + taxes + transfer fee is going to put that gun up to almost $1300 potentially for a store purchase.

For reference I did NOT buy that m400. I have my 2 AR15's and am happy. Looking to keep one and possibly trade the other off for other firearms I'm interested in.

During this time post Sandy Hook, I've managed:

new Bushmaster M4 Magpul MOE $1050
new Springfield M1A 22" Walnut $1500
used Keltec Sub 2000 in 9mm Glock $300
new Arsenal SAM7R milled Bulgarian AK $1300

And dozens of new

Checkmate M14 20rd mags $27
Magpul AR Pmags $16
Bulgarian steel AK mags $20
HK USP40 mags $30

And more I'm forgetting.

All normal pre Sandy Hook/Obama '12 prices.

Just be patient and persistent , place numerous small back orders at multiple sources instead of one big one , and even call local shops and have them get you stuff. It took less than 3 weeks for local shop to get a top of the line AK for me, much to my surprise.

And I say , with current politics, stock up on magazines first, even for guns you don't have yet, then the guns, then ammo.

If ANYTHING gets through it would be a magazine ban.

Indeed, I'm more worried about a magazine ban at the state level. Not worried on a national level with GOP control of the House. Not worried about an "assault weapons" ban whatsoever.

Ammo is scarce but it will eventually come back. Just make sure you have enough mags for whatever you're running.

Great price on the Keltec, those go for double now. I paid about 33% less for my SAM7, but it was used and purchased in October.

Ahh, the good old days. I used to leave Remington UMC bulk packs sitting on the shelves because it was a few cents more per round than the Federal bulk. Now people buy absolutely anything sitting on the shelves, even $1.25/round self-defense 9mm ammo.

Said a couple of those guys have bought multiple AR's and even told him they just buy them to resell 🙁

If they told him that, then he shouldn't have sold to them.

Call Walmart's legal department. They might want to put a limit on how many they sell to the same person.

Just like Humble experienced with Academy. This is quite prevalent and many places (Acedmy) have put restrictions in place. Walmart just hasnt for some reason. least on guns, ammo they have. Shit all you have to do is look at your local gun forums at all these "NIB" AR's people are selling and know damn well they bought them at a walmart, cabelas, academy for the sole purpose of resale. And since i dont know the whole story i cant truly say if he straight up said this is a straw purchase or not. All he has to do is say i bought to see if i liked it and i didnt so i sold it the next day. You'd have to be living under a rock to believe so many people have NIB AR's they were just holding on to till now and selling them to not think theres a ton of purchases for the sole purpose of resale happening everywhere.

If someone is buying and selling guns primarily for profit they need a dealer's license.

I have had 9mm brass sitting behind my eyeglasses burning the lower eyelid at least 2, maybe 3 times. The last time was during IPSC competition. I still kept muzzle in safe direction while lifting the glasses with the weak hand to let the brass out; a lot of people would have gotten disqualified. After that experience I finally invested in close-fitting protective glasses and prescription inserts.

Any details on the eye protection with inserts?

good luck proving anyone is buying it for that sole purpose though. unless you have them on a recording saying exactly what they are doing. Way to easy to just make something up to cover yourself. O i didnt like how i felt so i decided to sell it. For a profit...looks damn suspicious but how you going to prove he really just did decide he didnt like it?

And dont think i disagree with you. im against those who purchase anything just to resell it (mags, ammo, ect included). But its also a pretty grey area since there is no clear cut rules on it. Other wise you would have a lot of fathers, wives, husbands, kids, ect who have broken the law when they buy that gun for a present for a family member.

After I bought my first AR15, I thought five ARs would be a good number to have.

When I got to five, I thought surely 10 ARs would be enough.

Now that I'm closing in on 20, I still think there's some variants I wouldn't mind having.

unless i'm misunderstanding what you are saying how would the fathers, wives, husbands, kids, ect be breaking the law?

its up to you what you buy but i'm of the mindset that there are too many different guns i want to buy before i started buying multiples of a certain model.

the closest i have to multiple of the same model is Enfield no.1 mk 3 and Enfield no. 4 mk 2 and a colt trooper 4" in .357 and a colt trooper 6" in .22

once i get all the different guns i want, then i'll consider buying multiples of 1 type, haha.

Mine are Wiley-X. I think the model is PT-1, or a similar earlier model. I'm glad I bought them as opposed to sticking with regular glasses, but I would not recommend these particular ones. They take a lot of force to switch the protective lens or to detach the insert, so much so that one lens cracked pretty fast in use and had to be warranty replaced. Even worse, to apply enough force I have to palm grip the full surface of the lens. So if I want to switch from clear lens to sun lens or vice versa, I have to wash the lenses while I'm doing the switch or suffer smudgy lenses. If I had to buy again, I'd look at eye shields + inserts from ESS which have a sensible locking system instead of pure mechanical tension. Or close-fitting protective glasses from Wiley where the prescription is built in without separate inserts.

One of the lights I ordered showed up today. The Streamlight TLR1s HP.

I bought this for my Cx4 carbine, but I tried mounting it to a couple of handguns to see how comical it looked.

The light is extremely bright. Took it outside just now, and it easily throws light 200 yards with no trouble.

That should blind the hell out of some skinjob toasters. Strobe function is awesome.

Two are complete lowers and I'm waiting on uppers for them. The rest are complete.
Out of curiosity - what are the distinguishing qualities that make the rest of the ARs after the first one worth owning for you?

I own one nice AR. I've put about $2k in the gun and parts, $1k on the optic (though US prices for the same stuff would be a bit lower). If you gave me $3k right now with the condition that it must be spent on ARs and AR accessories, I'd sell my current optic, buy a $3.5k optic, stick it on my existing AR, and own one disgustingly good AR.

For me it's about having different ones for different needs.

One long range, hella nice scope, bipod, stock, etc
one tacticool
one all around, nothing fancy...the buck knife of AR

I don't like having a bunch of different calibers, but boy do I really want a serious 308 AR.

I guess I find comfort in what I'm familiar with. Now that I know how to disassemble it, clean it, understand the different parts, and have all the accessories, it's become easy to keep picking ARs up.

For example, I got a Saiga 7.62 so I bought a bunch of AK mags for it. Then I found that it needs special Saiga mags, so I had to order those at additional cost. It was kind of a hassle. Plus I'm going to have to learn how to clean a new platform, which I'm not looking forward to. That's why my Benelli shotgun is still sitting in it's box. It came disassembled and I haven't had the motivation to figure out how to put it together. It's stupid, I know, but I'm lazy that way and I don't have a lot of free time.

Same. I'd rather know my weapons inside and out like a glove without thinking. Train on just a few platforms and they're all the same.

Keep it simple stupid.

It's perfectly legal to buy a gun as a gift as long as they can legally own it. You can't buy it and sell it to them but you can buy it as a gift.

Colorado House passed all 4 gun bills.....the Senate is (D) Majority so it will breeze through....biggest one is magazine size, the libs caved from 10 to 15.

At least 15 is far more reasonable. 10 puts a lot of the most popular handguns off the market for defensive use.

Frankly I'd be fine with a 20 round limit if there was any guarantee of it staying at 20.
