YAGT Norinco 1911 vs Colt 1911

From the people who know this stuff: you're spending way too much money on something that doesn't work. You'd get similar answers if you wanted to get a GTX 590 without a working core. Serious advice: buy anything else.

I knew UK had schizophrenic gun rules but the concept of paying full retail for a non-working gun..."inane" doesn't even begin to capture it.

How is it any different to buying samurai swords? I'm not a samurai, I'm not going to fight anyone with them, I'm not going to become a samurai and yet I and many others have bought samurai swords.

Did I say it was different? Just because I didn't say so doesn't mean it was an exception.

Sure, so what I'm saying is people buy samurai swords, people don't get all up in arms about how they are buying a useless weapon and that it's a tragedy that it's not in a samurai's hands... Yet I make a thread about deactivated guns and people go batshit crazy.

Useless items are still useless. Doesn't matter if they're swords or guns, and don't care if they're not in the hands of the original intended and I certainly don't care if other people are just buying replicas.

You wanted advice, you got it. Don't like it? There it is.

I don't like your advise as it wasn't directed to what I was asking.

My question was "A or B" you're answer was "Neither your an idiot."

People buy things without practical application, deal with it.

HAL, save yourself, and us, the angst and ask this in a proper forum. First, I would wager 99.9% gun owners here are only familiar enough with US laws and sourcing of guns. Second, you know the reaction a gun thread authored by you will generate, right or wrong.

Anyway, link to google search for deactivated gun uk forum, looks like there are threads/forums where you will find better info, without the surrounding fury, than here.

Well given that it's a lot of money I'd rather it didn't feel cheap and tacky, also I'd like to be able to "upgrade" bits if I feel the urge...

Again...why?

I've held a Norinco 1911, it felt like any other 1911 I've ever held quite honestly. I may have shot one at one time also...can't recall. I'll have to ask my friend if he has one. If he does, I've probably shot it. It is made out of steel, finish is acceptable for a duty weapon.

I own a Colt Officer's Model and a Para-Ordnance LDA 7.45 (not a Colt firearm but it is a fullsize, single stack knockoff). The Para has a quality feel about it. Honestly, some of the Colt 1911s made in the 80s and 90s were actually worse than many of the knockoffs out there now. Visible tooling marks, misaligned S/N markings, etc.

*sigh*

Typical HAL Troll Thread: Asks for opinions, then dismisses/derides any opinions he doesn't agree with... Making us question why the hell he bothers to ask in the first place.

On the off chance you actually wanted a simple answer to your 'simple' question: Buy the deactivated Colt. Why? Because it says "Colt" on it, a name which has been associated with the weapon almost from the very beginning. 'Norinco' has little/no meaning attached.

That's as good an answer as you appear to be after.

So a few things first...

1) this is a repost of a repost (since the previous thread was locked) why not continue the thread before the one previous to this, or was it locked also?

2) your original thread was locked and you decide to make a new one?

There are 3 general types of 1911s - Government (5" barrel), Commander (4.25" barrel) and Officer (3.5" barrel).

Pretty much any parts made for that particular model are going to fit any brand of the same model. For a working gun, you may have to have parts fitted to the frame or have the frame fitted to the parts. For a non-working gun I'm going to say this is probably a non-issue.

I received an infraction for the first thread, the one that was locked was meant to be a 1911 vs 1911 thread without mention of deactivation, that I wasn't allowed so I started this, I was aiming not to get into a pro / con deactivation thread...

Awesome thank you good info, do you know which barrel size a "Colt 1911 Gold Cup Trophy Match" would have?

Send me the money you'll spend on a deactivated firearm. I'll go buy the real thing and send you the targets that I shoot with it. I'll also send you pictures of the gun on the targets after I've used them. You can hang them on your wall and formulate some story about how good a shot you are but had to get rid of the firearm before the authorities found out. Trust me...it will be money well spent.

I already have my own targets I am a good shot

Thanks dude

You're welcome

BTW - I did a little poking around in the internet for Deactivated guns... I have to say I'm surprised to see the prices are near (if not over!) what we in the USA would pay for an actual firing weapon.

Example: http://www.deactivated-guns.co.uk/d...ivated-amt-hardballer-colt-1911/prod_663.html

625GBP is about a thousand USD at the current exchange rate... which is roughly the price of a new, very good quality production 1911. (Though one could pay upwards of $3K for a custom, high end model...)

I know 🙁 I asked around and the reason is because a) Import costs b) Deactivation costs... sucks.
