Hey people, I have been looking for sometime to purchase a deactivated pistol.

I don't want to get into the whole deactivated gun thing with you guys it was made clear to me last time that most of you don't approve, in any event I tried making this thread last night without explaining and it got locked so here I am again.

What do you guys (those who know) think about a Norinco 1911 .45 vs a Colt 1911 .45, I have found one of each, the Norinco being considerably cheaper (and IMO with a nicer trigger) than the Colt.

So in terms of build quality / differences between them, what are there? any other comparisons welcome.

Since you won't be firing it buy the cheaper one. The Colt is a superior firearm, though...if you were actually using it. Don't get yourself killed.

Ok sure, in what way is it superior out of curiousity?

A knockoff is cheaper because they don't use the same quality parts. Sometimes the design is slightly different and it won't function properly. But it only matters when you're actually using real rounds. A knockoff might have a tendency to jam because the slide tolerances are off or they use substandard springs....things like that. The Norinco is a knockoff.

Ok that makes sense, one other thing I have been wondering is that will the norinco use the same parts, if I were to a buy replacement.... Whatever, then will I be able to buy standard colt parts or will I have to find someway of sourcing norinco parts? Are they interchangeable. What I'm mainly asking is, while one may beads from cheaper parts are they still technically the same?

Umm, parts for the gun are available.. Other than that you will probably only be able to use some 'pistol' rounds (Taurus Judge?) (12ga?) srsly I don't get children's hospital.

I'll be buying inert .45 rounds so that's no problem. Will I be able to, for example, use a colt 1911's trigger in the norinco or would I need a norinco trigger? Are they interchangeable

What are you planning on doing with it that you'll be needing to replace parts?

I have no idea really I just want to own my perfect (albeit useless) pistol, so maybe I'll want to change the grip, the trigger etc. I may want to leave it as is but I don't want to buy something, then in 6 months want / need to change something about it and find I have to go through an obscure Chinese company that may involve me attempting to
Import gun parts into the UK, there are dealers in the UK that sell colt parts, without me having to worry about accidentally buying the wrong part from china and getting arrested for attempting to import illegal gun parts...

seriously, I don't get it.

mount it on a wall? play cops and robbers with your nephew?

I have no nephew but yeah both of those, it's just a toy / ornament for me.

I own blunt samurai swords which I never plan on attacking anyone with and a light sabre, this will sit with them nicely

Would you get the one made by the federation or the republic? And are the parts interchangeable? Cause I've heard the federation knock offs aren't as sturdy.

I can confirm. You can't wack the hand built craftsmanship of a republic built light sabre, although the parts are interchangeable

Why do you give a damn how good the trigger is if you can't shoot it? Why would you want to spend money to upgrade the trigger on a gun that you can't shoot. It's like putting a supercharger on a car that you can't get gas for, it stupid. Why not just get an all metal airsoft? Since all you can do it look at the end result is essentially the same.

But to answer your questions the Colt is far far superior and the parts are interchangeable assuming the Norinco is built correctly. And it should be, Norinco's aren't that bad as far as low end 1911's. As long as it's machined to spec a single stack 1911 is a single stack 1911 with some minor differences like an external extractor on some makes, etc. Triggers, grips, sights, etc. are all interchangeable. Do some reading before you go buy a trigger as there are some differences even within the same manufacturer.(google series 70 vs series 80 1911 trigger)

Trigger: Aesthetics
Airsoft: illegal.

Brilliant, thank you, you single handedly answered everything I need to know. I realise that the colt is superior and if i had more money it's the one i'd go for but given that I'm not actually ever going to be able to fire it, I'm thinking the norinco is my best bet.

It's probably illegal in the UK to even throw the deactivated gun at the burglar walking out with your iPad, lest you injure him, and if you do injure him, he'll successfully sue you.

Deactivating a Colt 1911 is a crime, so buy the deactivated Chinese crap...

I would hate to think someone deactivated a Colt for you...

There have been some seriously stupid gun threads here, but this one takes the cake.
