It makes a person less horny too.... That's what I heard. :)

Condoms arent a 100% and they do break. However, you should be safe with condoms and the morning after pill. If the condom breaks, have her take a morning after pill.

Thanks Ernieb, not that I needed a complement, but for that modicum of courage it takes to go against the prevailing flow here.
-------------
-------------
I'll address you, MichaelD, since yours was the first complaint with words:

"What the heck does this have to do with birth control? *Moonbeam spouts another string of heady, deep-emotioned, incoherent babbling*"
-----------
Lets take a look at the original post in No more sex...for awhile...:

"my girlfriend has been on birth control pills but she doesn't like the way they make her feel (glad i'm not a woman), so she's giving them up. i use the condoms, she uses birth control. but now she doesn't want to have sex anymore until she finds a different contraceptive. that's ok i guess, she's asked me multiple times if i was in the relationship just for sex but now maybe she'll believe me. anyone's girlfriend (or any girls! hehe) use a different contaceptive?"
----------------
See that part where she says: "she's asked me multiple times if i was in the relationship just for sex but now maybe she'll believe me"

Just what do you suppose was going on there and why do you think what's important here is birth control. I see her testing his commitment and for the reasons I described. I see what you can't. He also feels that now she will believe him. The chances of that are zero. The love of another does not fill our void. It's a temporary fix that often leads to bitterness and recriminations when it fails and the parties move on to fresh hunting grounds in the endless and hopeless search for affirmation. The human issues raised by this post are fundamentally far more profound and far more significant than what form of birth control to use, but they are there only for somebody who can see them. Others, of course, can see only another string of heady, deep-emotioned, incoherent babbling. :D So while I thank you for your criticism, you and others like you, I decline to function in your myopic world. I can't, you see, in good conscience pay any attention to your advise. I have to address what is real and of import. It's just a matter of ethics.

The dog may bark, but the caravan moves on. A saying

maybe she is testing my commitment. it makes sense, she's asked me why i like her and things like that before. it kind of is a let down because it seems like she doesn't believe my sincerity, but some girls are insecure and need reassurance. and she's told me this. i know she loves me and wants to be with me, and she's making sure i feel the same way. i do! :)

I can't imagine 13528 posts of stuff like that being on these forums! What he hell does it mean anyways?

theres depo (the shot) dont like the side effects, and wouldn't recommend it unless the person is quite active. might gain some weight if she doesn't exericse. the patch (forgot the name), you stick it on near your butt not sure of the side effects. recommend the pill, more how long has she been on the pill? it takes awhile to get used to it. benefits of the pill shorter periods and its always on time. the pill also comes in different hormones, should inquire the doc on which pill would be better. i hate taking the pills myself just because i hate taking pills in general, but i like the benefits of it. great for the face also! ;)

Get her to sledge hammer your testicles on a weekly basis - it kills all the sperm around and temporarily shuts off sperm production.

The pill and patch are the same drug. Orthotricylene(sp?), it helps with acne.

My wife did this...NOT a good thing for everyone. I don't remember her side effects, but she hated it.

The main side effect are mood swings so violent, they'll make her former-self look positively angelic. I dated a woman that got the shot. For the first two weeks afterwards, she was flat-out dangerous to be around. Growling, snapping, scratching and biting...and that was when she was happy.

The shot is bad.

MichaelD's Girlfriend, and MichaelD of course.

LMAO! That's perfect! Yep, that's me there, in the corner..."God...when's she gonna STFU....I'm tired..." Hahahah!!

Very nice, Brutus.

That is one of the dumbest statements I've read today, and that's an impressive feat for ATOT. RU-486 is an abortive agent, if I remember correctly. The morning after pills WHICH ARE AVAILABLE IN THE U.S. are *not* abortive agents.

Yup. The morning after pills are a super-concentrated dose of hormones similar to those normally found in The Pill. Completely different than RU-486.

I seriously don't know how people manage to say such dumb things.

And to continue to the spread of information, it can generally be taken up to 72 hours after the encounter, I believe.

Ignorance. Unfortunately, people that are against things like this will spread misinformation. Some people will pick up on that information without consulting an expert (a doctor in this case) and continue to spread the BS.

It's quite amusing hearing you guys talk about birth control..

Where to start?

Well, for one.. If you're using both birth control and condoms, you have absolutely nothing to worry about. Infact, if you use condoms only you have very little to worry about. I don't understand why you have to stop just because she isn't on the pill.

Just pull out right before, you should be good to go. No contraceptives needed. Problem solved.

KK
The pullout method is not contraception, and you will end up getting her pregnant if you use this method long enough.

There are more than just one type of pill. She should talk to her doctor about getting a different one.
Ok, finally some good advice. I recommend doing this, as well.

Alcohol is the most widely used contraceptive in the world.
How is alcohol a contraceptive? It, obviously, doesen't keep many people from getting pregnant.

hmmm. maybe i'll look into that. yeah condoms aren't enough (or are they?) as someone above posted, we are trying to be sure not to have an "accident." considering we're both 20 years old, it wouldn't be a necessarily welcomed thing to have happen. do condoms break or have you heard of someone's breaking? seems kinda doubtful but i'm sure it must happen to some people.

Yes, condoms can and do break.
That doesen't mean they aren't protection enough. Her chances of getting pregnant if you're using a condom properly is very slim. And as n0cmonkey says, there is always the 72 hour pill.

No, they are not. Orthotricyclen is just the brand name. There are many different brands/kinds of pills. They all contain different ammounts of drugs, some even contain completely different drugs, but they all do the same thing.
