If you define "most powerful" as the one that transfers the most energy to the bullet, I believe it would be the S&W 500 Magnum.

You are missing the whole "semi-auto pistol"... or I missed the into of a massive new design.

Mateba?

This is the first gun thread I've ever read where the correct response actually IS "deagle, lol". Seriously, I think the Desert Eagle is it - I don't think the Mateba shoots anything quite as powerful as the .50.

make sure you have the extended 12 round catridge instead of the standard 7 round. (or whatever the # is in Matrix and Max Payne.)

I was saying Mateba from a operation standpoint, not power.

Semi-auto = one pull one bullet, right?

EDIT: Guess not.

Planning on getting mugged by a rhinocerous?

What on earth do you need a 50 caliber handgun for? If you think you're going to come up against something a .45, 40S&W or .357 won't stop, consider a shotgun. Or maybe an AK-47.

The .500 S&W Magnum would be the most powerful handgun in the world. It is a semi automatic in that you pull the trigger once and it fires one bullet. It is a revolver though.

Quick googling seems to say it fires the 454 Casull. Which beats the pants of the 50 AE.

If you lower the cross-sectional area of the bullet, it strikes less armor, therefore encounters less resistance. But those little bullets are easier to get moving faster.

It's an automatic revolver... So why is it considered a semi-auto pistol, but the .500 Magnum is not?

Because with a normal revolver you have to work the action, ie manually get it to bring the next catridge into firing position, it is not a semi-auto.
