(I did buy the Remington 870 - I'll be out shooting it soon :D)

Well theres certainly less expensive options. You get get a Gen 2 SHP or DEP tube. Or a regular Gen 2 with an IR illuminator.

From Victor I assume? Top notch stuff.

You could get his "Da Torch" for around $120 or so (I think) which is a highly rated IR illuminator.

I think I've decided to go the DIY route and build one and buy pieces here and there since I can't afford to plunk down the big $$$ for a complete one.

I was once looking at a PVS-14 from Yukon, it's a lot cheaper than ones from Pinnacle. Just scared about what kind of quality that will buy me... something that is blurry or breaks down after a few months?

I like how the PVS-14's can be quickly converted from a weapon mounted scope to handheld monocular to a binocular setup attached to your helmet with a second identical unit. very versatile.

all i got right now is this cheap Russian Gen 1 monocular. it's horrendous! way too much manual operation required... i need both hands to constantly focus the thing as I scan an area and the light is poor

i hope to buy a PVS-14 like that one in the near future. maybe after I get a 50 cal BMG from Serbu ;)

Yukon = Russian Gen 1. Won't be any improvement. I think they've got some stuff they call "gen 2" but isn't really.

I thought PVS-14 by definition is always Gen3?

Well yeah, but Yukon doesn't make a PVS-14

Edit: Humm it appears Yukon does make a PVS-14.

No idea of the quality. Wouldn't make much sense since the PVS-14 is built on tubes by Northrop. How would they get an export license to make them and turn around and sell them in the US??

Not sure. I sure wouldn't spend $3000+ on a Yukon or ATN. Hell I wouldn't spend $1 on anything Yukon or ATN.

Yep, thats the guy.

I decided to pass on the torch. I figure with something this good, I damn well better not need an IR flahslight! ;)

That's obscenely bad ass. Does the EOTech adjust according to the angle of the barrel to show where the rounds will hit?

Specop,

Your M4-gery is nicer than my M4-gery. :(

I have too many toys going simultaneously. My motorcycle is getting most of the extra money right now.

Mine is home-built with a flat-top upper and handle/iron sights. I'd love to put some optics on it. I'm putting some cash away now for a case of ammo. It's like hungry-hungry hippo. It just eats the shells. Fun though.

It does move around depending on the angle of your head or the firearm. This doesnt mean it will represent where the bullet will impact. You can hold the rifle still and move your head and watch the dot move around. Obviously moving your head doesnt change the point of impact of the bullet so.....

So when it's correctly aimed the dot will be in the middle? It sounds counter-intuitive the way you described it...

Yes, when you get the correct cheek weld the dot represents the point of impact. It also co-witnesses witht he front sight....Meaning the dot will sit on the front sight post. Essentially your front sight and holographic sight are all inline with your eye to the target.

I love my EOthingy as well

I just use mine with my Military AN/PVS-14's. I was issued a set of them, but when it came time to check out of my unit and get discharged, the supply computer said I was not issued a set. Score for me.
