YAFT: Priest Holmes to RETIRE!!!

Priest should retire, as others have said he isn't the same RB he has been the last two years. Larry Johnson has really stepped it up in the last two years, and I'm not just saying that because he helped Chiefs beat the Raiders either.

This is so ridiculous. The guy has lost a step, but don't EVEN tell me that he's not better than all but maybe a handful of backs in the league. Just because LJ is a better back than him now, Priest should RETIRE?!?! Why don't you advocate trading him to another team or something? Do you honestly believe he's already finished?

Priest is still pretty elite......but he's got that Bo Jackson hip. He kidn of reminded me of pedro martinez...brilliant....but fragile. Like you always held your breath because you know every game could be his last.

I just picked up Larry Johnson, but in my league Priest is marked as CANNOT DROP. Hopefully this option will be changed when he retires.

Uh..why is it crap? Priest has lost a step. He still has great field vision, and is probably the best goal line RB there is, but LJ HAS stepped it up. I think he should retire for his health. Who cares about everyone stupid FFL's.

His hip is fine. Wtf. 😕

I am going to clean up in my league. BWAAAHAAA!

Chiefs spokesman: Holmes is not retiring

By ELIZABETH MERRILL The Kansas City Star

As speculation continued to swirl about Priest Holmes? future, the Chiefs said Wednesday that their career rushing leader has no plans to leave football because of a mystery injury that has taken him to three doctors.

?I would say this ? Priest Holmes is not retiring,? Bob Moore, a team spokesman, said Wednesday morning. ?That I do know.?

Moore said there was no news conference planned on Holmes? status. The Star reported Sunday that Holmes, a three-time Pro Bowl running back, was seeing a spine specialist and could be sidelined for an extended period of time. On Tuesday, Holmes was in Miami to see another doctor, prompting speculation in Kansas City that the 32-year-old may end his football career.

Holmes has suffered two neurological injuries this season ? he was involved in a helmet-to-helmet collision Oct. 30 at San Diego and suffered a shoulder injury in September at Oakland.

Coach Dick Vermeil waited until the late hours Tuesday night to hear word on Holmes? status. Moore declined to comment early Wednesday on whether the Chiefs had spoken to Holmes.

The Chiefs were scheduled to practice Wednesday afternoon.

If Holmes had been playing, I don't think Vermeil would've even considered the field goal at the end of the Raiders game. With Johnson it was iffy because he's not that good of a short yardage back (his 2 big fumbles this year came because of running straignt into a pack of people).

Personally, I think the rotation that they were doing is what was hurting both backs. Did you notice how when they ran primarily Holmes that both backs did better? When they kept rotating them neither back could get a rythm going. But when they let Holmes take the ball a lot he could get something going, and then when Jonhson came in the defense wasn't ready for him so he could break for bigger runs.

Another ESPN Article

Earlier Wednesday, the team denied the injury would lead to Holmes' retirement. Television station KSHB reported Wednesday that doctors found a lump on Holmes' spine and were concerned about possible paralysis should he take a direct hit. Citing a highly placed source it didn't identify, the station said Holmes could announce his retirement as soon as Thursday.

But both the team and an employee at the firm run by Holmes' agent, Todd France, rejected suggestions Holmes would retire because of the injury.

"All the speculation, television, the media throwing things out all shook him up," Vermeil said of Holmes. "Someone said he had a tumor on his spine. He thought it was very unfair.

From SportingNews:

Priest Holmes - RB, Kansas City
The Chiefs have put Holmes on injured reserve, officially ending Holmes' 2005 season. Holmes suffered a bruise in his spinal canal on the helmet-to-helmet hit that knocked him out of the Week 8 game. He will be re-evaluated after 30 days to see how well the injury has healed.
Fantasy Source spin: Unlike the Chiefs, not every fantasy player who has Holmes on his or her team can turn to Larry Johnson. If you don't have Johnson, you'll need to find another replacement -- such as the Packers' Samkon Gado, the Steelers' Duce Staley or the Vikings' Michael Bennett, as all three are about to take on more prominent running roles. (Vinnie Iyer/TSN)
Next 3: @BUF (31st in run defense; 150.7 ypg), @HOU, NE. Bye week: 5 Week 10 rating:

I just offered Holmes in a trade to everyone in my league.. hopefully someone doesn't watch sports tonight and bites on the trade 😛
