While I guess some would consider MD as being in the “South” as the Mason-Dixon Line is the northern border of the state, it did not secede back in the Civil War, and very few of us would likely consider ourselves “southerners.”

Anyway, this particular county borders DC, and I’m kinda surprised to see it being MoCo, and not one of the more rural areas getting caught up in this. I work in a neighboring county and my general impression is that MoCo officers were both well paid and well trained.

I couldn’t watch the whole video, after the officer started screaming in his face in their school, and saying he needs to be beaten, it was clear that none of the adults present had any business considering themselves as such.

Equal parts sad for the kid, and disgusted at the officers.

A neighbor summoned police stating there were eight to 10 people outside of the house, which is for sale, and they were “about to fight,” according to the police report. Dispatch advised the responding officer that property was damaged, people were attempting to break into the house and one person had brandished a gun.

Lee and Boddie told police that Lee had scheduled a viewing of the home through First Multiple Listing Service, which the officer verified had been scheduled to take place from 3:10 p.m. until 4:10 p.m.

Lee said she hired Boddie and six other people, including makeup artist Alexis Brown, to take photos of Lee for her marketing portfolio. The police report noted that Lee was wearing a black pantsuit with high-heel shoes and Boddie was dressed in black with a company logo on his shirt.

Lee said she received a call from the property owner’s realtor about 3:20 p.m. asking her and the others to leave. All of the other contractors had already left, and it was about 3:30 p.m. when Lee, Boddie and Brown prepared to leave.

They said Rickels arrived in an SUV and blocked in Boddie’s vehicle. “Jason (Rickels) asked him, ‘What are you doing?’ to which Dwayne (Boddie) stated he was doing video for a job and showed Jason his camera to prove what he was doing.’'

Boddie said Rickels grabbed the camera, smashed it on the ground and said, “not here, you’re not.”

Lee, Boddie and Brown said Rickels then pulled his gun. The officer said there were conflicting statements as to when Rickels brandished the weapon. The trio said Rickels threatened to shoot Boddie if he moved.

Rickels and his wife told police they were notified by their realtor that Lee wanted to view the home, so Melody Rickels left to go to the grocery store while the viewing took place.

Melody Rickels then saw on her Ring camera that eight to 10 people were going in the house and she interpreted the viewing as a scam and the group’s intent was to burglarize the home because they were bringing bags into the home.

They said they also believed it was a scam because the group did not leave immediately when asked to do so. The officer noted a 10-to-15 minute lapse. Melody called her husband and said she was calling the police because she thought the house was being burglarized.

huh, no? I'm absolutely not bothsidesing this. Only that, from what I read of the linked article, that mob of people that showed up were basically following a tip, not knowing anything about the people at the house, and the tip was wrong.

There's obviously the issue of them being a bunch of armed sociopaths running around town with no business being armed for the task at hand....but this is America and such crazy people are everywhere.

The officer in the center of this seems to have a plausible history of not being racist--I mean, he's got a mixed-race kid, and adopted kid, right? (apologies--I'm only now looking at this thread again after, however long ago this was, heh).

Again, I think the mom is in her right to be terrified and offended by this scene. Every bit of it is fucked up, especially from her perspective. The demands of an apology from the mob are outrageous, too. ....I get the sense that is mostly just a reaction from the mother getting very public (justified!) about the incident and rejecting the court's finding. Again, I think the mom is justified. I think the mob are petty bitches, and they should be the ones apologizing, because again, I'm still seeing this as a big fuckup in that moment, that certainly got worse because, basically, no one is willing to talk to each other about it. ....from what was reported in that article.

as for the stand your ground--yeah, I think if we are going there and if that applies here, the mom and her son would have been justified in blowing those fucking assholes away for showing up like that. I'm glad that they didn't; for their sake....because we know what would have happened there, and yes, it's totally fucked up.

have you spent much time on the eastern shore or in the western (re: basically West VA) parts of the state? Yeah, MD is the fucking south, lol. While they didn't exactly secede, they still worship their bullshit, ugly as fuck monarchist state flag. 😀

I feel like MD never joined the United States in the first place--always trying to have it both ways.

Hell, NC has more cosmopolitan, "liberal" regions and population concentrations than MD does. Also consider that the "liberal" centers of MD--MO, Baltimore and PG County are populated by northerners, international folks....ex-pats of all types. PG and Baltimore co are still pretty local, but all of these counties that now exist as "cheap" housing for DC workers are largely influenced by transplants.

Southern Maryland very much has southern culture to it. I grew up there.
Literally just take pennsylvania ave south for about an hour. It's a very different place.

To Catarina’s credit, she did try and tell the officers on the scene that Antone was not the man she called 911 on. She says at the time, the cops pushed her out of the way and didn’t want to hear what she had to say. It was much later, after Antone and his girlfriend were in handcuffs, she says that the officers paid her any attention but that it didn’t change their situation at all.

Almost like an HOA takeover. Had that happen once, they were flippers it turns out, trying to clean up the neighborhood for the flip.

When people other then white conservatives are in charge. Dems have the majority buy gerrymandering keeps Republicans effectively in power. You can't change hearts but you can damn sure make the consequences for shit like this so untenable people stop over time.
